Will do!

And that other recital disc by Favorin looks quite interesting, I put it on the streaming list.

Some from my birthday last month, some from a recent record store visit.

One thing about living in the Seattle area - secondhand recordings of the Seattle Symphony are common, and decently priced! I've seen the Schwarz Hanson cycle in multiple record shops.
So much great music, so little time...

The Jenny Lin Shostakovich is a fine choice.

It's been 2.5 years since my last major binge. I've bought a handful of things in the interim, but it was time.

PART ONE

There were certain couplings that are missing from the box set that I wanted to have, especially the ones on the Symphony No.7 album. So, rather than being sensible and getting the 5-disc box, I'm spending twice as much on seven separate discs.

PART TWO

It remains to be seen how this pans out. I'm not sure that my chosen store will in fact have the Auryn opus 1 and 2, but if not I still have reasonable confidence I can find them elsewhere.

I planned to get the Leipziger for op.17.  I had also planned to get the Auryn for op.9, but this basically seems impossible on regular CD (as opposed to the fancy Blu-Ray Audio version). And meanwhile I've been dithering long enough that the Leipziger have also completed op.9, so I'm going for that essentially unheard. Availability of the Leipziger online, whether for full listen/purchase or for sampling, seems extremely patchy but I clearly liked the sound of what little I managed last year when I was picking this.

If all these come through, I will have a recording of every Haydn quartet except op.42.  Yes I could I have got a box set, but none of the complete boxes seemed liked it would fully satisfy me. I mean, I hunted down the Mosaiques quartet recordings last year in an epic drama, so I'm being fussy here.

PART THREE (final)

I decided a while ago that Tate was my choice to get the earlier symphonies, plus an alternate for the later ones (I have Wordsworth on Naxos who is pretty good in most cases). Finally acting on that choice.

Not certain I'll be able to get this from the store I ordered with, but if not there will be other options. I have a recording of the Beethoven (Stern) that just didn't make a lot of sense to me. When I heard this Faust recording, the lightbulb switched on. The first movement just has exactly the right pulse.

I didn't end up trying all of this online (and technically almost all of it IS available for streaming these days), but really I just couldn't resist. Even if some of the recordings are older sound than I would like, the whole idea of this set just pushes my buttons so much. I've previously mentioned the exhibition of Ballets Russes costumes here in Canberra, many years ago, that captured my imagination. Will I leaf through the exhibition catalogue while listening to this box? Absolutely.

That Faust Beethoven is one of the only Beethoven VCs I understand/abide so I'm with you on that. And the Ballets Russes box you will enjoy thoroughly.

A wise purchase this. Lots of terrific music here.
Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

I'm looking forward to hearing more Florence Price from Philadelphia!

I'm listening to that as I post it.  The Price part is excellent; the Bruch is good, but doesn't fit well as a coupling with the Price.

I was excited to find it! Apparently it's hard to find as a CD now.

Looks like you got quite the haul yourself! ;D

Love the Delos Hanson's and the fine Bryden Thomson Martinu box.

The postman just arrived with both my Presto and Europadisc orders. One week to get from UK to Australia is very impressive.

The price on this keeps jumping up and down from below $100 to over $120.
This morning it's below $100, so I clicked...but it's coming from Amazon Japan.
