Landed on my doorstep today (quite literally)

Arrived today, Ingrid Haebler: The Philips Legacy.

Inspired by the revelatory experience I had listening to some of her Schubert recordings, and reinforced by the Mozart recordings (including both versions of many pieces she recorded more than once) as well as a good deal of Bach, Haydn, Beethoven and Chopin.

Went into Barnes and Noble to get the July issue of BBC Music Magazine, and discovered they had this in what's left of their classical music section.

So actually Traverso is to blame, and he bears the sole responsibility for this. He made me do it, and he promised he will do it too! Lets see! ;D
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Pre-Order (late September UK)
Once again Cesar's fault  ;D
Surely it must be more than one CD but the price seems v reasonable (£14.00)
PS I'm hoping that the recording of Sinfonia Antartica is the one from the Festival Hall in London on 12th October 1977 (VW's 105th Birthday) which Nigel Simeone's excellent new book 'RVW and Adrian Boult' describes as 'One of Boult's finest surviving accounts of the works was his last ...it turned out to be Boult's farewell to the concert platform'. '...this Antartica was outstanding even by Boult's standards, with excellent playing from the BBCSO helping to produce a performance of overwhelming authority. It is enhanced at the climax of 'Landscape' by the magnificent sound of the Festival Hall organ...and is crowned by a visionary account of the 'Epilogue...' This performance has never been released before.

I'm shocked!  :D  Is there even still room for such a brick?  ;D

I think that with three complete cycles and a dozen separate organ recordings, I'm good. Would give it a run if it would become available streaming though. And of course I would get a reissue of Kooiman's Coronata cycle, if that ever happens before the CD becomes extinct. 8)

Spotted Horses and Karl put this back on my radar, which I had almost ordered after I listened to the entire set awhile back:

And this recording I loved when I listened to it a few weeks ago:

I suppose that is probably enough Schubert for a week!

There is never enough Schubert.  ;D

Yes I was shocked too, but 21 CD's is just that...a brick :)
And I did not need another complete cycle, but then "What is not need" in the ears of the curious. I promised my wife this is the last box I would buy, so this is actually a birthday present for the coming day, well in somewhat less as 2 months. ;D

Overall a top choice for a complete Schütz, I'd say. There is a complete Schütz by Matteo Messori (Brilliant) - very competent but very much in full Italian style. Obviously Schütz took inspiration from Italy, so it depends what angle you prefer. The Rademann cycle has a few weak points that might necessitate a couple of additional recordings in the longer run. All primarily related to his largish choral forces that are not suitable in every case.

Weirdly, I initially found what I sampled of Redermann too "slick" and preferred the more "rugged" style of Messori (I have his Cantiones Sacrae and Geistliche Chormusic) or the bare approach of Hillier/Ars Nova Copenhagen or even Summerly.

I left Radermann for a few weeks, tried it again and found it gorgeous, hence the purchase. I can happily let all four approaches cohabit now on the shelves 8)

No, not at all, I have plenty of room now, after cleaning up my collection. 4 months ago about 4000 CD'S went to a friend of mine, and he is happy as a clam ;D

Sony has been trying to move copies of the Yo-Yo Ma/Emanuel Ax chamber music box for a while now. At only about $2 a disc, I figured I should be kind and help them out.

Just ordered it off of Amazon MP. Your post made me realize almost none of this is in the Complete Ax RCA set (just the Brahms sonatas), which I had assumed to be the case without looking. (Although I do have some of it as individual CDs.)
