I buy very little classical music these days (because I feel I have so much of it already), but I made an order of 5 CPO CDs from JPC.de today:

Kuhnau - Complete Sacret Works VI - 7.99 €
Kuhnau - Complete Sacret Works VII - 7.99 €
Kuhnau - Complete Sacret Works VIII - 7.99 €
Pejacevic - Piano Concerto, Overture & Orchestral Songs - 7.99 €
Pejacevic - Symphony Op. 41 & Phantasie Concertante - 7.99 €

I have been collecting the Kuhnau Sacred Works series and this completes that. Some time ago I got interested of Dora Pejacevic and these are my first CDs of her music, the starter pack if you will. Pejacevic's music reminds me of Elgar. There is similar melancholic playfulness that combines sadness, joy, innocence of children and nostalgia felt by older people.

I also bouth a non-classical CD (13.99 €). The shipping for these 6 CD in all was 6.16 € (4.99 € flat rate + 2.00 €/kg). Order total was 60.10 €
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Great to finally be able to know Hahn's Le Dieu bleu!

This has always been the best Gluck recording I know. At the end of the 90s, Minkowski was in his absolute prime and everything he conducted turned into gold. Delunsch has never made a better recording, Workman and Podles are also fantastic. I absolutely love everything about this one.
The first half of life is spent in longing for the second, the second half in regretting the first.

From Arkivmusic. The Plucked Bach CD is on sale this weekend, and should be worth having, if only for the BWV 565 on mandolin. And they also have Ondine on sale, hence the Ries.

Today's harvest from the thrift store. I am especially happy with the live Kempe Lohengrin, Libor Pešek's Dvořák cycle and the mono Kempff Beethoven piano sonatas. Lots of rarities too, such as the Frick/King Don Carlo of which I had never heard before.

This is the sort of thing I still find worth purchasing. Probably I can find most if not all it all of it my streaming, but it is nice to skip the wild goose chase and have it all in one place. The best price I found was on importcds.com, about $64.

Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

There will be more coming available in the next years, for obvious reasons...
A colleague recently reached out to me, asking if I was interested in her late father's collection. Since I was the only person she knew with a Classical CD collection, the thrift store would be the only alternative...
I have agreed to have a look and pick some stuff out, and then help with finding a professional seller to buy up the rest.

Yes much I am afraid, just thinking of all the CD's for which I still have to find a home.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

The best thing I could come up with for my colleague, was to get in touch with a major Dutch based seller on Discogs. At least that way it will find its way to other collectors.

Since I hope to continue collecting for another 20 years or so (God willing), my major concern in case I succumb to the temptation to get a lot of used discs is: where to leave it all?  :o

One of the reasons for my departure from CD buying is deciding who am I going to leave my collection with after I'm gone. What a massive burden this will be for anyone even if this is someone that likes classical music and by stopping CD buying cold turkey, I have, at least, eliminated some of the problem.

CD buying shouldn't have turned into this and, to be fair, I should've stopped years ago, but it truly became an obsession. When the obsession outweighs the actual listening of the music itself, it's time to call it quits. The fact that I still have CDs in plastic wrap is ridiculous to me now. This shouldn't be the case at all!

That's great that @nico1616 is continuing to buy CDs and find bargains. I just hope he has the space for it all, because this is another reason why I had to stop.

So, are you only buying downloads now John?

The problem with buying books and CDs is that the dopamine hit from buying them overwhelms the logical part of the brain: "Do I have time and space for this?" For CDs, that is not as problematic as for books, which require a time investment of several hours, sometimes dozens of hours.

A way to liberate yourself from the thrill of collecting is to stream music and use the public library for your reading. That is if you wish to. There is nothing inherently wrong about collecting in and of itself.

Oh yeah, I've been definitely leaning towards this as there are several newer releases that have caught my eye like that new Reynaldo Hahn ballet recording that has been mentioned by several members. In fact, I'm thinking of going to buy it right now actually.
