Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

I hear you, brother.  The series has 43 volumes, some of them with more than one disc in the box.  8)

Indeed! But you should also give the Furtwangler a listen  :).  Furtwangler has a way of conducting Wagner that no other conductor was able to emulate. His understanding of the symphonic structure of these music dramas is unmatched. The tempo is just right, the overall "feel" is spot on.

Actually, both of them are great, in their own ways.  I might add that the first EMI remaster of the Furtwangler can be had rather cheaply on Brilliant.

J.S. Bach: FRENCH SUITES [Davitt Moroney] (Virgin Veritas, 2cd)
'New' copies of this have been quite expensive as long as I've been interested, but FYI a couple cheap copies just became available via Amazon MP, ~$11 including domestic shipping.

First recording I owned of the French Suites.  I thought I was the only one here who had that little treasure.

Today I was fortunate enough to pick up a used but in very good condition recording of this:

Needless to say I paid quite handsomely for it. It will complement my Ton Koopman set of the complete organ works.

I am glad you like this one; I vaguely remember some praise for this not long ago....Mandryka and Annie, perhaps?  I cannot remember.

Thanks also Wanderer for that Korngold/Von Otter suggestion, though I am afraid copies have become a bit expensive for the moment.  I might have to take a risk on a used copy.  One of my random Korngold sightings was a song or opera aria reduction played by that group (w/Otter) from their TDK dvd (ASIN: B0002J9TWY), broadcast on TV.  It was gorgeous.  I missed the title but I think it was from DIE TOTE STADT.

Actually sundry other ASINs for this recording, it's a mess.

I'm just doing what I'm told. So far: interesting sound production. It's a very "big" and roomy sounding piano recording. The opening section of sonata 7 is intriguing, mysterious, ominous...

This was mentioned some days ago, and I've been impressed by Grante's playing of Godowsky so I mentioned it at my local shop and they had a copy which I did not resist.   The Bösendorfer is from the Paul Badura-Skoda collection    a DEBUSSY and tributes by DUKAS and CASELLA

Naturally, I am intrigued!   :) Zarlino is a new name to me, but samples sound like interesting music.

Arrived this morning, delivered by the hardest working woman in the Bundespost (who was wearing a Santa cap...seriously  ;D ...it's St. Nikolaus day): Fleisher and Szell's Schumann and Grieg; and Albioni's Sinfonie a Cinque op.2 (mentioned favorably by GuybrushThreepwood).

I got intrigued just by the title. I'm not sure I've even heard of Schmidt before.
