Thanks for the Bavouzet ivories feedback, Parsifal and Jeffrey.  Days after I finally buy him, after thinking about it for months, he gets tossed out of the GASPARD blind comparison charnel house.  No respect!   >:(

Thread duty:

After enjoying two other Hyperion discs of his music, HYMNUS PARADISI and LAMBERT'S CLAVICHORD, both more-than-interesting and maybe even singular, on one listen (is that going too far?), thought I would get a little more.  I found a very cheap used copy of:

Herbert Howells: ST. PAUL'S SERVICE etc etc (Hyperion 'Dyad', 2cd)

The Europadisc Harmonia Mundi sale is very nice...

Picked up the Lewis Beethoven concerto cycle box and Isabelle Faust Beethoven violin sonatas box.

Its cheaper to get these via amazon uk and select Europadisc as the MP seller than the actual Europadisc site..   Both came to <£33 delivered.  Worth a look if you're in the market for any Harmonia Mundi discs.

Thanks for alerting us to this (or on second thought, maybe not! :P). Crossed a couple of items from my wish-list.

Biber's Rosary Sonatas, by Manze & Co. This has taken a long time coming, as it always seems high-priced and for some reason, despite its highly-regarded status, hasn't come to down to HM Gold, say. One probably can't expect it to go any lower in price, so I went for it.

Also, Staier's Diabelli Variations.

Hmm, nice metric.  Now, make it 'less than 200 not including shipping costs' and you can really raid the Amazon marketplace and have a quite substantial small order.

I love the English Suites on harpsichord so I needed to hear the French Suites! I don't like Bach on the piano and insist that all keyboard compositions scored for the harpsichord be played on the harpsichord!

It's possible that Baumont has recorded something that isn't pure gold but I haven't heard it yet.

Applause for the Podger and the Baumont.

Thread duty:
Landed today:
Beethoven: Sonatas for Violin and Fortepiano:  Schroeder/Immerseel
Mozart: La Finta Gardinera/ Jacobs et al
Shostakovich: Cello Concerto No. 1/Cello Sonata/Moderato for Cello and Piano
Bertrand, cello Amoyel, piano BBC National Orchestra of Wales  Rophe conductor

Bought at the used CD store yesterday but not yet reported here:
Vivaldi: La Stravanganza  Huggett/Hogwood/AAM
Handel: Messiah   Marriner/ASMF ("250th Anniversary perfomance")
Bach: a single CD of well known organ works performed by Karl Richter, under the title"Toccata and Fugue: Bach Organ Works" although the only T&F included is BWV 565
Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 /CSO et al/Solti
Verdi:  Rigoletto/Muti conducting
Offenbach: Contes de Hoffmann/Sutherland, Domingo, et al.

The Beethoven has been featured on the Ugly CD covers thread,  but the liner notes are rather interesting,  with descriptions of the rehearsals and first performance by participants/direct witnesses, including, by way of illustrating negative reactions, one Joseph Carl Rosenbaum, who called the concert (this is the one which included three movements from the Missa Solemnis) "lovely but tedious".  This perceptive listener, btw, had once served Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy, and therefore was a fellow employee of Haydn.

Just ordered the Badura Skoda Schubert set from Amazon France.

(makes bow of acknowledgement to GeoDude)

This will be, not merely my only PI Schubert sonata set, but my only Schubert sonata set, MI or PI.

<breaks out champagne>

Look out, it could get Bad Addictive.  Though I imagine you know this already and have already collected Schubert the way I should have: more singles, less sets.  However, I remember at least a couple GMG old hands saying the completism impulse for Schubert was much stronger for them than even the comparable Beethoven sonatas temptation.

Thank you all for the positive feedback.  :). I have been on a Bach "kick" for quite some time now. That man is a genius in every sense of the word.
