I had that box in my possession for a long time, in fact it has a prominent place in my listening room. Played it maybe twice, and its still on the roll for a few times. The music and performance are very good. I wrote extensively about them on my blog, and earlier, before your time on GMG.
Enjoy!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

You seem to be going into a real 20C phase. Look forward to seeing listening posts from you!

I need to make sure to keep several rescue inhalers nearby just in case....   >:D

Thanks, Harry. Yeah, I got this set for a reasonable price considering it's OOP. What little I've heard from Hanson has been quite enjoyable (I recall liking his Lament For Beowulf). I don't think I've heard any of the symphonies in their entirety aside from hearing a movement or two from Symphony No. 2 'Romantic'.

So excited to find another recording with the Esterhazy String Quartet!  Yay!

I kind of assumed/hoped that these guys/girls were Hungarian, but the names on the back cover seem very Dutch indeed... ::)

Yes, indeed. I checked my Mozart Sq set and the names are the same. For a second there I wondered if there were more than one SQ ensemble carrying the name of the Esterhazy SQ? I noticed that there is a "New Esterhazy Quartet" being active here on the US west coast.

The new erato

A small order from presto:

I thought this series had run its course, but here's a new issue:

[asin]B00UUXSVA8[/asin]

I also follow this series:

[asin]B00U2OT3IE[/asin]

Superb ensemble and a much underrecorded composer, so I ordered this as well:

The new erato

And a few days later from europadisc's easter promotions:

Need to broaden my Leifs holdings outside hos noisy orchestral scores (his string quartets are sublimely beautiful and original):

[asin]B00MC656NG[/asin]

The Orlando Consort is a favorite in this kind of repertoire (and I already have their previous Hyperion Machaut disc)

[asin]B00QKYTS58[/asin]

Noseda's Italian series is a no-brainer and I collect them all:

[asin]B00U2OT2J4[/asin]

This takes care of my CDCDCD for a few weeks.

Not that I need another Siegfried in my collection, but I saw this here in Madrid heavily discounted, and for me it's a memento of Catherine Foster's Brünnhilde (that I really enjoyed last year in Bayreuth):

This should certainly be an outstanding set, Peter. Karlo (North Star) has commented on the quality of the various performances before, but I own a lot of the performances outside of the set and can attest that you will be a happy listener.

Interesting! Have you listened much to Collins's works? Is this a new realm for you?  I had never heard about him before I read your post.
