Harry: the Symphonie parisienne set is a must ! It's not just symphonies, but ballets and arias, all of them exquisitely played and sung. In the big works (Haydn symphonies and Beethoven 2) the PI really make a difference, even if they have been performed by many PI bands. I think the difference is that they are more relaxed in feeling, more joyful too. The conductor is more a primus inter pares than with other more tightly controlled ensembles. Big recommendation. ;)

Thank you that was really very helpful. :)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

My pleasure:  your post brought that Telemann set to my attention !  :D Ricercar is a terrific label, one of the best.

Before I order this lot I would like to invite some comments from people that know them or have knowledge about performers.
Thank you!

No one reacted so I guess you all think them marvelous...right ordered then.

4 boxes in total from Ricercar.

I liked that one, Harry.
Not for the Beethoven or Haydn - I guess that is included to provide some historical context - but for the French and Belgian Classical repetitoire of the likes of Grétry, Méhul, Gossec, Hérold.... Ravishing stuff... for me a real eye opener!  :)
Recommended.

Thank you Que. There seems to be a large fanbase for this box. A good decision then to buy it.

Another dip into the Arkivmusic pond, this week dominated by composers I've never heard.

First, two performers not usually found on Naxos CDs

Torres's s own website doesn't seem to mention this CD.
http://www.nestortorres.com/
Next, two CDs of modern string quartets.  Other than Part, all the composers heard here are completely missing from my CD shelves, even Glass.

I must admit that the Borusan Quartet's name reminds me of this guy

These two CDs should be self explanatory

And finally two CDs of music I own in other performances.  They are actually back order items.  The Granados is an omnibus, therefore useful to cover whatever orchestral music I don't have of his, and I'm curious to see how Guglielmo does against Podger and Biondi.

Marc

Oh dear, I did it.

Another Beethoven set, dowloading now. :o

The famous mono sonatas integral by Wilhelm Kempff, reissued by Regis, lossless FLAC.

Revised a Presto Classical order I had initially made, but added and subtracted several items, but now my order is the following:

I can't believe the new site STILL does not offer a "saved items" section.
I find it very frustrating and it does cost them sales.

Perhaps you could write them and make an inquiry?

You made a good choice with Sudbin. You have his Scriabin already, I hope/assume.

I don't, but I plan to remedy that in the next order, Brian. 8)

Both sets are on my to order list. Are there GMG ers that know the quality of these recordings? I would like to invite comments.

I haven't bought much classical music lately, but now ordered this:

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural

Eduard Erdmann (1898-1958) is one of my favourite composers from the Weimar Germany era. When the Nazis came to power, he stayed in Germany but stopped composing altogether. Whatever he had previously composed was boycotted by the regime anyway. He resumed composing in 1946. His fine symphonies have been recorded on Koch and CPO.

Erdmann was also a renowned pianist and pedagogue, and he is heard here in that capacity:

.

I'm curious to hear him play the Schubert sonata. He plays the first movement in 12:23 :o.. Certainly different from the protracted readings favoured by so many pianists nowadays.
