A couple of used copies ordered today:

All great stuff Olivier.
Best 'Symphonic Variations' (Parry)on Disc and also Mai-Dun, Forgotten Rite.
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I entirely blame Jeffrey for the purchase of this music, 6 Symphonies no less. On the plus side, my wife likes this music also. My credit card however is not in a state of bliss.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Florestan and Harry, Thanks for your input, good to know. I will report back after a listen.

Oxfam in Farnham??

www.highresaudio.com has the new Paik recording available for purchase in EU markets.  I used NordVPN to blow past the shopping cart IP restrictions, but my payment methods are strictly US based, so I could not buy.  Now I must set up a non-US payment method - probably one for EU markets and one for Japan, really - so I can download without restriction from overseas.

Just ordered from jpc:

Giovanni Salvucci is a new name to me, but the historical period (the interwar years in Italy) interests me, and the snippets (which show a clear kinship with Casella and early Petrassi) sounded very alluring.

I was alerted to this new release not too long ago by the new erato (hat tip to him). Mélodies are an aspect of Schmitt's output I do not know at all.

Jongen is a recent discovery for me (thanks to GMG). Let's see what his SQs are like...

For L'apothéose de Molière and Le carnaval de Londres, two Milhaud works (arrangements of 18th century music) I don't know.

vers la flamme

^That Hyperion is the only Milhaud in my library. Pretty good, I think, though I have to really be in the mood for that kind of music.

André

Killing some waiting time before today's concert I stopped at the record shop. I'm eager to compare the Molinari's with the Kronos Quartet's versions.

Small world (you can't get much smaller then Farnham). On the CD front also Haitink's RVW 7th which you may have noticed on the shelves. I guess you already have that.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Yes indeed - I trawl the shelves there with near-addictive regularity!  They went through a phase of over-pricing discs in a rather self-defeating way (a branch manager who thought that if it was expensive online it must be worth it in-store) but at the moment the prices seem more sensible.  Over the years I've found quite a bit of good stuff there....

Snapped a very cheap used copy of the Parry symphonies. Music Magpie listed it at £19 during last week, and then yesterday, they had a copy for less than £7.00 incl carriage. Would have been rude not to  0:)

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I will be interested to read what you eventually think of that one. I found it to be a "grower"; it took its time to appeal to me.

Harry

Due to fine reviews amongst them Jeffrey about the Steinberg, and the Chaminade disc that charmed me out of my boots, (such a fantastic female composer) and a disc by Hubert Clifford which is not without merit. Already had his Symphony I came to the conclusion that I needed this disc too.

Thanks! It was a perfect opportunity to get more Telemann using very little money. The only dedicated Telemann CD I have had is the first Naxos Telemaan CD ever I believe (Recorder Suite in A minor/Viola Concerto/...) and I have works of Telemann on other CDs, perhaps one hour combined.

Cheers. Yes, I have it myself and I do think that it is a quality buy for so little investment. I am sure that you will enjoy it.
