I have the LP and CD but it's a long time since I heard it. I like his film music and TV music very much ('The Great War') but his concert music, as far as I recall, is a tougher nut to crack but worthwhile. I was just thinking that I must give another listen to his music. David Measham was a fine conductor who died too young.

Worthwhile of your time I think, Jeffrey. The Symphony I enjoyed immensely, the Adagio outstanding. Beethoven Variations I didn't like so much. Both performance and recording top notch.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I agree Lol. I played the first three movements earlier today in the car and the slow movement is especially impressive.

Found this cheap.  I have no expectation that Stanley will come close to matching Esteban Sanchez in the Fifth, an impossible feat, but I've not heard the other sonatas.

My immediate impression on hearing No. 4 (on Naxos) was that it really needs to be orchestrated. Wonder if anyone else feels this way.

Congrats Que!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.
