And three more before going to bed (pace John!)

Oh...this is really excellent. Hilary Hahn is my reference in both the Sibelius and Schoenberg. I do like several other performances of the Sibelius and Schoenberg, but Hahn is in her element in both concerti. Tetzlaff is quite good in the Sibelius VC, but I feel a bit slackness from Dausgaard in the accompaniment. Dausgaard later on turned in one of my favorite performances of Kullervo, but that's a topic for another thread. I don't the know the Batiashvili/Barenboim recording, but she's certainly a fine violinist. Anyway, I think you'll enjoy all of these, especially the Hahn.

The Tetzlaff is splendid (I assume you got the download version, in its physical form it is unfortunately quite OOP). The other two are merely decent, not very fond of either of them. I trust you already have the superb Kavakos rendition on BIS (playing both the original and the revised version)?

Yes. I went digital years ago and never looked back.  :)

I have it in the BIS mega-edition.

Actually, I sampled the Schoenberg and to my surprise I quite liked (moderately) what I heard. Go figure!  :o

I think you'll like the Skalkottas Violin Concerto even better, then. I also very much enjoy his Concerto for 2 Violins (in its original form for 2 violins and 2 pianos, he died before orchestrating it).

Never heard a single note of Skalkottas, must investigate.

I'm afraid this reads like so much BS to me.

When I placed an order recently with HMV Japan using a Mastercard, they (a) placed a 0.01 reservation on the card as verification (but did not take cash), then (b) removed the reservation and charged the proper cash amount when shipping.  That is a common procedure.

Its a question of their software that is the problem, not unwillingness. They do not want to loose customers just for the fun of it, but this problem is beyond the capabilities of the programmers. They cannot analyze the source of the why. They hired an external specialist to find the problem. So it will get better, but I have no idea when they solved the problem. The customer service are people that can answer question about orders etc, but explain why and how of their software glitch is beyond their knowledge.

On the way from Presto :

I hope you enjoy both sets. I found the Fremaux set a bit of a mixed bag though it contained a few works I wouldn't normally bother with so perhaps it broadened my horizons slightly.

Hopefully will, Biffo. What I streamed of Fremaux I found quite interesting and it also will fill some gaps in my collection (I have no Massenet, fills some missing works of Ibert and Walton). I think I will still get the Armin Jordan at some point. There are quite a few works of interest on there too.

Never had this experience before - the disc arrived and the inlay card is totally upside down. Front vs. back, one is facing up and the other is facing down.  ;D Easy to fix, just funny.

Just bought:

I wish Sinopoli had conducted Daphne and Der Rosenkavalier, but I suppose we should be lucky that he was able to record several of the Strauss operas.

After the mentioning of sales at JPC, I took a look at just recordings 'on sale' and found the ones below - decided to fill out my Raff Piano Works w/ the box set selling for just 25 Euros and added some String Quartets by him.  The CPE Bach Flute Quartets are on period instruments w/ fortepiano - will complement my other recording of these works.  I own a half dozen discs of the orchestral works of Rautavaara but none of his chamber music - this recording was well reviewed at Classics Today (9/9).  Finally a surprise finding, i.e. all of the Jean-Claude Veilhan Mozart recordings on 5 discs (own 3 CDs of his recordings but only one dedicated to Wolfie).

So, some good deals at JPC which I've not used in quite a while - 53 Euros in total (including the shipping 'across the pond') for 16 discs - Dave :)

Cheers John. It actually arrived today and I am really looking forward to listening to it. I will take it very slowly.

A good idea. Take your time --- there's a lot of musical information to process. :)

The new erato

Ordered a couple of discs from series I follow:

Quite agree.  :)
I was suprised that we had another volume of bassoon concertos to go! Though I'm not complaining...  8)

The new erato
