Please, keep us informed about your thoughts on them. I for one am very curious.

Will do, Andrei. I'll try and post some thoughts in the 'Listening' thread. Puccini is probably in my blood somewhere as my grandfather was a huge fan and my dad, who is a closet opera fan, also really admires his music. After I showed my dad my purchases, he said "Wait...you didn't at least buy a recording of La Boheme?" I just looked at him puzzled. :)

Well, he's right. La boheme is a must.

I'm getting there --- I'll probably end up with his whole oeuvre as time wears on. :D

1+ Ray - bought the set exactly a year ago after debating between the Taneyev Quartet vs. Carpe Diem SQ on Naxos; had just a few discs of each at the time - went w/ the older recordings on Northern Flowers despite some minor complaints in the Taneyev Thread (believe both of us were part of those posts along w/ others).  Dave :)

Yes, I was just revisiting the composer thread and very much remembered you mentioning this box set.  Even though I already had the quartet performances from this box set, I didn't have the others (so about half), and I like "complete box sets".  The price was right, and so the rest is history.  :D

You were on an opera kick for awhile, but now you're into early music. Can't say I'm much interested in classical music prior to the Romantic Era, although I do like Beethoven and Haydn, but it's good that this music continues to get recorded and released for people who do enjoy it.

How altruistic & touching!  :D

I have and very much enjoy several Taneyev chamber CDs (string trios, piano trio, piano quartet, piano quintet; Hyperion, DG, cpo), but haven't convinced myself to purchase the Northern Flowers box.
Meanwhile, something much more weird:

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but Europadisc is having a great 40% off sale this weekend. It includes Harmonia Mundi, LSO Live, Mariinsky. Here's my purchase from last night...

Greg!!! Long-time, no see! I hope you've doing well, my friend. Miss seeing you on here. Oh, all of those Debussy Harmonia Mundi recordings are superb. I bought them as they were coming out.

I am quite jealous; these have been on my wishlist for some time.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with Hungarian chorus master László Heltay, but I mostly associate him with leading choirs for Sir Neville Marriner and other London-based symphonic choral performances, especially from around the 70's and 80's. When I see his name attached to a symphonic chorus, I know it will be well drilled and full of energy, so I try to pick up anything I can from Heltay.

These Australian Eloquence releases are great, but once they go out of print, boy are they hard to find. Got a hold of this one somehow.
