Just placed a rather large order with JPC:

A little update on this order, which is still "open" at JPC: I decided to cancel the Braunfels Capriccio recordings, but still opted for the orchesterlieder discs on Oehms as I don't have any of these particular pieces. The Vladigerov Capriccios discs will stay intact as I don't have anything from this composer and he's of particular interest.

*I own plenty of Braunfels recordings to keep me busy, so the Capriccio discs won't be too much of a loss.

resist....?  :D you have feeble knees    :)

Never mind his knees, it's the permeability of his wallet!

Hey, Harry and Jeffrey (JBS) has spent much more money than I have and this thread is proof.

*Special note*

Now that I'm thinking about it, we're all about even. :P

Just bought:

And one more:

Never thought I'd own a recording with Lang Lang, but I've heard this is an excellent recording. I needed another recording of the Tchaikovsky Piano Trio.

I think there are worse ways to spend your money. My problem is, how do you find the time to make it all your own. I must confess that in my rather limited collection there are quite a few recordings that I have barely listened to.
Especially in the more contemporary works I often need to listen to a composition several times before the curtain opens in order to and feel really connected (if I'm lucky). I sometimes wonder if that is also an issue for other members. There are quite a lot of composers that I don't pay attention to,

Time is the enemy and it's never on your side. My whole point of owning a collection is to be able to freely listen to something whenever I choose to do so. I don't agonize over hearing it all or when I'm going to be get around to hearing something, because, ultimately, that's irrelevant. Listening at one's own leisure is much more pleasurable.

That is a wise outlook.

Yeah, reading my post, it's not a bad viewpoint from such a feeble mind such as my own. ;D

Having a large collection is a luxury and I have the idea, although not from personal experience, that you make different musical choices when you're standing in front of the pantry (if you can still find your way) than when you get music from the different streaming services.

Deciding what to listen to is the easy part, but finding the time is completely different matter altogether.

Stocked up on some more Toch from an eBay seller I've been using a good bit this year:

Mapman, my JPC order won't arrive until Friday!

Mapman

I'm sorry that you have to wait so long! A few days ago, USPS said mine would arrive on Wednesday, but then they changed it to Monday. Hopefully yours arrives sooner than expected too!

Won this wholesale lot via eBay:

All the recordings are Japanese imports and are SHM-CDs.

Same, there are plenty of things I listen to very infrequently. And I can tell you I haven't quite finished listening to the Bach cantatas I bought in 2014.

Such is life. But I'm not in a huge rush to acquire more albums, my usual rule is I have to finish listening to the last batch. And my batches are reasonably big, typically around 30 CDs at a time. This batch is taking me a long time for 2 key reasons: I do a lot more exploring by streaming now, and the process of buying and selling houses has really slowed me down / affected my willingness to engage with new works. I've spent many months stuck on Haydn, Dvorak and Chopin when only Haydn was actually in the batch of discs I was "meant" to be listening to.

But what's more important is that I get something out of what I'm listening to, not regret over what I'm not listening to.  Most of us can only hear one thing at any given moment.

Freitas Branco conducts Vaughan Williams's 9th Symphony (oddly coupled with Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto). I've been aware of this CD for several years but it has just become available inexpensively (from Portugal) on the discogs website:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).
