Quote from: ritter on September 12, 2024, 10:31:15 AMBut there's a very direct connection from Gluck's ballet to Mozart. Just wait 'til you hear it  :)

Well, I surely missed it at first hearing, but of course listening to music while driving is not exactly conducive to recognizing and appreciating its subtleties and connections.

I will listen carefully asap.

During COVID, I sucked into fountain pen collecting, and I spent a fortune constantly buying new and antique pens and every color and brand of ink - in large part so I could have something to post as a new purchase on r/fountainpens.

Thankfully, I have streaming music subscriptions, so a thread like this one doesn't do the same to me!  :P

I am constantly adding things to my streaming library, though, as a result of what I see here. I'll never get around to all of it. In a few weeks, I will end up deleting everything and starting over. I know. I've seen me do it.

Don't worry, I'm just as anarchic in my listening habits. It's not infrequently that I change my listening plans at very short notice, influenced either by what I read on GMG or in a book, or simply by a whim.

JBS

Quote from: JBS on September 06, 2024, 12:46:56 PMTime for another "will Arkivmusic actually ship this?"

All three are Weekend Specials or sale items.

Landed today.
Arkivmusic's service seems to better if you the next to cheapest, and not the cheapest. At least they sent out the email notice of shipment the two times I've done it, and it certainly arrives a couple of days quicker.

I love Ginastera. I don't have Bernstein's Serenade or Moussa's work. Nice program, almost 80 minutes of music and one of Nagano's last discs with the MSO.

Two new Chandos releases:

I'll be curious as to how you find it to be.  As I mentioned earlier, the title of the work is intriguing (as well as the artwork  ;D ).

PD

p.s.  Will this be another case of tossing it through the bedroom window, or have you given your man-cave a separate postal address (and box)?

CDs are much easier to smuggle into the house than LPs PD. Alternatively I have to get to the (exterior) post-box first!  ::)

Two orders from Amazon US/Amazon MP

Let's just say recent discussion of these recordings had something to do with ordering them.

Happens often.

There's no membership fee for subscribing to GMG but for some reason members' bank balance goes down... 😜

It's the main reason I stream. (Though paying for three services and sometimes trying out others is a bit overkill!)

Very nice, André. I love Ginastera's Violin Concerto, although I don't know this performance but the Hilary Hahn released awhile back, which I find outstanding. The Bernstein Serenade is a good piece --- I'm unfamiliar with the Moussa piece. Anyway, I hope you get around to purchasing this CD at some point (if you haven't already):

Everyone should always buy Hilary Hahn CDs.

Symphonic Addict

Some phenomenal purchases, @JBS , above all for those symphony cycles. I don't know those Raff recordings, but I don't doubt they are up to the standards.
Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

Well, I do as long as it's repertoire that I'm interested in of course. ;)

Le Buisson Ardent

I think it should noted that @JBS has long held the title of 'most obsessive buyer' on GMG. Even @Harry and myself are left in the dust with this member's purchases.

To be fair, I haven't bought any classical recordings since earlier this year, but I'm seeing some new releases that catching my eye.
