Some really obscure (at least to me) pianists and composers. Contents and comments here.

The Warner Saint-Saens Edition box includes Darre's complete cycle of the concertos with Forestier conducting, recorded about 3 or 4 years after the one in this set.

Indeed. Funny that I, who don't much care for Saint-Saëns' music, should end up with so many recordings of his piano concerti with this specific pianist in my collection..

Lol, that's like with me, if you look at my collection, you would think my favorite composers are Bach and Mozart. ;D

Perhaps you care for Saint-Saëns' music more than you admit to yourself.  ;)
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Given recent trends in my purchases, these two should be no surprise. Completism was a driving force.

A used copy. Of Strauss's operas only Guntram will be completely missing from my shelves.

A new copy (suprisingly, and not much more than used copies on Amazon MP).  After this, the only Verdi opera I don't have in one form or another* is Alzira.

*meaning I have I Lombardi and Stiffelio but not Jerusalem and Aroldo.  And of Don Carlo/Carlos I have only the Italian versions, not the French.

Nice. Curious that Sawallisch's recording of Friedenstag was not included in his "complete" operas set on Warner Classics.

As for Alzira, no need to hurry. The composer himself thought it was "proprio brutta".  ;D

Bayerische Rundfunk was involved, so maybe BRKlassik wouldn't release its rights--hopefully that means they intend to release it themselves.

I got it for the masses and "O holder tag."

I believe that has Harry Christophers and the Sixteen on the Mass in B Minor... which IMO is the highlight of the entire Bach edition. It is a stellar performance, one of the finest IMO. You should immediately check it out!

Investigation revealed I do not in fact have a recording of Stiffelio. A used copy from Amazon MP provided the remedy.

I love it that it also includes the piano version of the Op. 86 Konzertstück.

Wanderer

Quote from: DavidW on July 14, 2025, 08:50:49 AM@Wanderer I love Nott's Mahler and have the entire set. I love Bavouzet's Haydn and have the whole set of the piano sonatas. I'll have to check out his recording of the concertos.

It's quite nice and he adds a few tasteful embellishments here and there.

The Op.86 Konzertstück works really well in the keyboard version (much as I love the 4 horn original!) so I'm surprised its such a rarity on disc.  I don't know the Oppitz performance but have enjoyed this one very much too;
