Quote from: Madiel on August 19, 2025, 05:31:30 AM**It's very weird that I've got several orders all coming from Brisbane, and a couple of volumes from Melbourne and that's it. Clearly, Sydney is full of the sort of uncouth people that don't listen to Vivaldi. But I really didn't think Brisbane would do the heavy lifting.

Or perhaps Sydney knows the value of Vivaldi and is keeping it for themselves, and it's Brisbane that is uncouth?

Well, there is that one former owner in the Brisbane area who threw away the cardboard box of the opera volumes, and trimmed the libretto booklet so it would fit in the CD case.

I did not buy any of those vandalised copies. Though credit to the eBay store that explicitly disclosed what had been done.

Something I only discovered today existed (long OOP, bought used from a Discogs seller):

A hitherto unknown to me iteration of Bussotti's Loenzaccio (based on Alfred de Musset). Initially there was the "danced opera" from 1972 (extracts from the world première are available on a CD included in Daniela Lotti's book L'aura ritrovata, published by LIM in 2014), The Lorenzaccio-Symphonie was recorded by Giuseppe Sinopoli for DG), and now I find this 40" work for "soprano, tenor, actor with solo guitar, and large symphony orchestra, recited in French, sung in Italian and German". The enterprising Arturo Tamayo conducts this Austrian Radio production. The other work on the CD, by Olga Neuwirth, can also be interesting.

Just bought. I thought I was done, but no, somebody still had this new at a price not completely insane.

Given the total cost including shipping is more than A$30 below any other copy I've seen, I'll take it.

Tchetuev did a LvB series on Caro Mitis, the Russian HIP label, very good IMO (and not HIP but very well recorded). The series was unfortunately never finished, presumably because of the label's demise...

Quote from: Madiel on August 15, 2025, 11:39:48 PMAlso ordered, and bought if Europadisc can get hold of stock though to be honest I'm quite doubtful about 2 of these, and a little doubtful about the third:

Europadisc came back and told me that the Musica Sacra per Alto was deleted, which was no surprise. I've just ordered a new copy for rather more, via Amazon Australia but coming from France. Hopefully that works out. It was still slightly cheaper than even the best second-hand prices I've seen.

They still seem to believe in the other two. If they can get hold of Il Giustino I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Did I need yet another recording of Chopin's complete piano sonatas, probably my 20-something-th? Apparently I did. Did I need yet another incomplete box of Chopin's music? Ditto. Just please, don't ask me whether I've listened to all the others I already had.

One of my fondest LP memories was Veselka's recording of Palestrina's Mass Hodie Christus Natus Est.

For Poulenc's Gloria mainly, but I'm also curious about the CSO'S Daphnis

CD 2 seems to contain some very interesting music.

I may have posted about the Schubert and O'Brien, but not sure - and too lazy to check 🤭
