Madiel

Just ordered.

New and sealed. The most expensive single disc yet, not because of the base price but because the UK version of eBay international shipping charges like a wounded bull. I ended up deciding just to wear those costs.

There was also a pretty good used copy but I seem to be at the point of embracing that I can afford to splurge within reason. I mean technically I could afford to splurge outside of reason for these last few, I'm just not going to give the crazy sellers the satisfaction.

Two more I might buy later today. Then I might be out of non-crazy options for now.

Decided I need a sonic upgrade on these three Strauss operas.  Plus these will have booklets so I won't need to rely on Wikipedia to know what's going on in the opera.

All used copies from Amazon Marketplace.

I am going to Vintage Vinyl on Thursday this week! In keeping with my wife's dictum to listen to the News less and to Music more, I may part with some dollars.  We will see.  I might take photos of my visit, so you can come along with.

There have been some absolutely stunning Naïve Vivaldi covers, but this one may beat all, IMHO.

If you're picking up fortepiano recordings, you're heading in a different direction.  :P

Today is not as Italian as usual.

And yet, *Guarneri* sounds unmistakably Italian.

Yes, hence not claiming that today/s purchase is completely un-Italian.  ;D

Eventually, I will stop, but it will not be this day!

Excellent choice. Very good contributions by Zlata Chochieva and Lukas Geniusas but the other pianists featured aren't half bad either.

As promised (threatened?), a Visit to Vintage Vinyl (VVV1): Thanks for coming with. This is the largest record/CD store in my locale!  I know some of you are chanting, "Spend, Spend, Spend!," but I hope others of you are counseling restraint. (VVV2): There were more sales people there than customers during my visit on a Thursday morn. Emphasis is on this particular genre, though all tastes are catered to. (I've deliberately refrained from photographing other folks - interesting as they are - to avoid, among other things, a Cold Play replay. (VVV3): Just like the good ol' days in record shops of yore, you can audition used LPs before you buy. When I was there, a band called Black Lips and another called Big Thief were played loud (not tinnitus-inducing loud) but standard rock 'n' roll loud - a certain content creator on YouTube would have departed immediately. I don't listen to much rock, but I liked both bands, new to me.  (VVV4): Classical music enthusiasts, as you can see, are treated much less respectfully - than other genres.  But at least we get our exercise – we will outlive them all!  (Shoulda brought my garden knee pads).

(VVV5): The used LPs and CDs, I thought, are quite reasonably priced and only once was I ever disappointed with the condition of an LP purchased here. New records, however...(!) (VVV6): This store is quite proud of its jazz stock and justifiably so, though I did not spend any time there today. Though the worth of the Classical Section rests solely on whatever titles customers resell to the shop, I'd bet most of us would find something to our liking.  I did.

I've never seen the central movements of Mahler's Symphony No. 7 alone like that.  It makes sense for LP, I suppose.

The Mirror of Narcissus is a fabulous disc. Paul Beier is also always a winner, for most of what I heard from him was much to my liking.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

It actually does.  What I'm struggling with is the distinctly self-conscious, psychedelic-era marketing. In 1971, if I'd known about this album, would I have bought it and would I have bought into its commercial messaging that classical music can be as heavy as Led Zep?  I certainly loved classical as much or maybe more than rock music...I wish I knew the answer to those questions; I don't and never will, but I can express disappointment at the lack of creativity on the part of classical promoters who thought they were being clever.  Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique was similary marketed.
