Just bought.

It appeared on Discogs tonight with an excellent clear description (2nd hand but in good nick, and no reports of olive oil stains...), and a price that was expensive but not insane. I made an offer for 75% of that, and it was accepted.

I feel like messaging the dodgy seller of the other copy I know about, just to tell him that, allowing for shipping and taxes, I've paid less than a quarter of what I'd have to pay him. His is reportedly mint, but still, his base price is 250 Euros. Absurd.

That's all the bassoons done.

There are a million versions of the Requiem, but I put this one up against the regularly lauded Corydon Singers on Hyperion and this seemed to hold its own just fine. It seems as if it's a somewhat fast-paced version, good clarity from smallish forces. But the thing that has long made me interested in this album, as well as it being local, is the coupling. La Naissance de Venus doesn't get a lot of airings.

Hyperion. Oh yes, Hyperion...

Hyperion! Now just bought at Presto's sale:

It took me a couple of passes of increasing ruthlessness to get it down to a sensible quantity. There are others I might come back to at some point, but many of these are both particularly cheap and also low in stock. The Mozart and the Elgar count as 'expensive' at A$22 each (about 11 pounds?)

I love the Nash Ensemble in the Mozart Quintets and the Raphael Ensemble in Brahms. I should explore those two groups of performers further.

Somehow I either missed or forgot that this was available from Amazon Australia, effectively from the same French seller that I already bought another volume from (and have bought from previously through the same method some years ago).

It has not arrived. It might never arrive.

In all my years of buying CDs, only one has never arrived before: from this exact same seller. On that occasion a replacement was sent and arrived. But 2 times, out of only 3 orders? That does not look like misfortune, that looks like incompetence (and from other people's reviews it's not isolated).

And this is about the rarest volume of the lot. I don't know of any other copies, not even overpriced ones.

VERY annoyed.

Mind you, if it does by some chance arrive, it will be free.

Is the seller's name "Outer Paradise"? Because they're offering two copies on Amazon.de (or at least, list it twice) for €47 plus €16.77 shipping, are in France, and have several reviews complaining about orders not received/lost.

ETA
I found this listing--but I think the Dutch translates into a wait of at least 3 weeks for them to ship it.

Thank you for making me laugh [I've done silly things myself and don't ask about what my previous cats have done to hardcover books and...oh, I can't go there right now, other things....].  By the way, did your efforts with talcum powder help at all?

Best wishes,

Thanks regarding leads which I will go check out. Outer paradise is a different name but that does sound suspicious...

EDIT: There is indirect evidence it's the same people. Outer Paradise has the same address as "Prestivo" on the US site. My seller on the Australian site is "Prestivo France" (why doesn't our site require addresses?...)

SECOND EDIT: "More than 3 weeks" is probably that site's version of "we don't have it but we will ask our supplier". I probably won't bother. Probably.

No to stain removal. I will live with a faint regret.

You will be o.k. (And I don't mean this facetiously).  Perhaps don't think on the coverings but the music.

So... I left my own 1-star, never received it review, also noting this wasn't the first issue with this seller and wondering whether they ever really sent anything... and they've got in touch offering to increase my refund from 100% to 115%, and saying how damaging negative reviews are to their small business.

To which I've responded that what is damaging their business is the incredibly high number of customers not receiving anything... and I've reported them to Amazon for trying to get me to change my review.

I am the wrong person to mess with on something like this. They ultimately haven't wasted my money, but they have wasted my time, and I'm pretty sure there was a different opportunity to buy this album that I passed up because I thought I'd already bought it.

Love the Dmitri H. recordings that I have of his.  Was sorry to hear of his passing and at such a young age too.

That stinks!

Wonder if there are several sellers sharing a warehouse space and that's the reason for the various names?  Or are all of the same items available under each of the different poster/business' names?

It just turned up on Momox for a very good price. VERY.

Well I'm a Riccardo Minasi fan as of one Vivaldi album ago.

Minasi's Vivaldi is remarkably good and his Mozart is just as compelling.

Arrived this morning

Bizet

Symphony in C along with L'Arlésienne Suite.

Sir Neville Marriner
Academy of St Martin in the Fields

Going to hear this symphony performed this weekend and not very familiar with it so thought I would get the recording.
