Just arrived via today's mail:

A wonderful disc! :) :)

It is such a pity that you missed the box set that includes it and many other sought-after discs by Van Nevel and his ensemble... :( It was frequently discussed before your arrival here.
Perhaps members here could alert you when it resurfaces somewhere for a reasonable price? I will in any case keep an eye out! :)

Yes Q, that disc is wonderful in every way!  I've almost had it on auto-repeat since its arrival a few days ago. . .  Simply gorgeous.

Thank you for the offer to alert me when and if the box again becomes reasonable. . .  Much appreciated.  I assume that the discs in this box are in sleeves and not jewel cases - is this correct?  I enjoyed reading the liner notes in the Utopia Triumphans release; very informative and well-written.

Just ordered from Zoverstock:

Yes, the discs come in sleeves, without liner notes ... but fortunately it does include a thick booklet with all the texts.

Man, that Pluhar recording of Monteverdi's Vespers was damaging.  Not only did it result in my order of the O'Dette box set but now this:

[asin]B005AAVFH2[/asin]

I suppose that at $22 shipped for a 7 disc set I'm not complaining too much.

In case anyone is wondering, that is a reboxing of this set:

I feel it's time to explore this music by Shostakovich.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

A keeper in all respects!  You probably know this, but there's an additional 2cd mopping up some madrigali not included in the box:

Possibly my last order until I get back from vacation (don't want to let the mailbox get jammed up while I'm gone!)

Speaking of Monteverdi, is anyone familiar with this recording:

In order to expand my available stock of potential church music to go along with the masses of Austria, I got a couple of pre-Classical organ concerto disks;

Wagenseil was the top drawer composer in Vienna from the mid-1750's to 1770 or so. These are 4 of his many organ concertos, performed by Elisabeth Ullmann on a ~1800 organ in Rust, Austria. She is accompanied by one of my truly favorite groups, Piccolo Concerto Wien. Typical 'church group' of 2 violins, cello, violone (early double baß), bassoon archlute & harpsichord. Looking forward to giving this a good listen. :)

The second disk is similar works by his lesser and greater contemporaries; J. Haydn (Hob 18:5), Werner (Haydn's first Kapellmeister at Eisenstadt), Zechner, Auffmann, Königsperger and J.C. Bach. This is a combination of concertos and pastorellas with similar instruments as above (no archlute though!), also intended mainly for church use. I have heard this one once, and will be looking at it more in depth in the Masses of Classical Austria thread soon.
