Wasn't really looking to buy anything right now, but Arkiv has an EMI sale that I ended up not being able to resist.  Snagged a total of seven discs for $27, shipping included.

Delightful day's 'second-hand' shopping in London yesterday threw up 12 purchases including 3 lovely modern requiems, by David Bednall, Patrick Hawes & Paul Carr.
Always a pleasure to this this 'classic' art form thriving in the late 20th, & 21st centuries.

Just picked up this, which seems nothing short of utterly charming based on the samples:

Indeed. It's one of those unsuspected surprises! :) :)

My problem with that sale was that everything that interested me was something I already have (like that Angelich Brahms, which I'm fairly confident you will enjoy.)  The only one I actually ordered was the Biondi/EG recording of reconstructed Bach concertos.

Thread duty:
A negative sort.   All my recent purchases have landed.
For only the second time since I've joined GMG, I have nothing on order, and nothing in transit to me.  I don't plan on ordering anything until I come back from Boston in two weeks.  Meanwhile,  I can play a little catch up with the "To Be Listened To" pile.

THE PILE contains (and I'm being conservative here) about 400 CDs, including three Wagner Rings, most of the Hanssler Complete Bach box, one complete and one partial cycle of the Mozart and Haydn symphonies, each; all of Solti's Mozart, Strauss and Wagner opera recordings (including one of those Rings), all of Haydn's operas, most of Mozart's lesser operas,  one Bach organ cycle, a 50 CD set of most of Beethoven's major works, plus one more cycle each of the string quartets, violin sonatas, symphonies and piano sonatas.  Plus about fifteen other opera recordings, and lesser box sets and individual items.  Scarpia's question applies to me as much as to you.  Even if I don't order anything else (highly improbable!), it would take me about four months just to get through the backlog.

And that's not counting the DVD pile,  which is much smaller but populated by many operas.

My backlog is bigger than that.  I'm confident I'll never get through every disc I own.

BTW, ordered that Schubert yet?   :)

This was actually the last item I added.  I do hope I like it.  I did not care for his LvB on Mirare, but Beethoven and Brahms are different . . .

Re: the Leonskaja Schubert, I'm going to have to let it rest until I resume the mania.  I might wait until Apex titles are on sale again via Arkiv or whoever.  She seems like a fine Schubert pianist*, but I still don't own Uchida's set, and that is probably a must, while it's available....the list goes on.  Schubert is an affliction.

* I did read one very negative Distler review of a MDG Schubert disc of hers, but even therein he complimented the Warner/Apex recordings by way of comparison.

Oh dear, I have Uchida's Schubert, Brendel's (two of them) and Kempff.  And I have Zacharias too.  Only have listened to Uchida (most of it) Kempff (all of it) and a bit of Brendel.  Why do I have no Schubert of Fortepiano?

Just to make sure: did you see the brief recent discussion of the Badura-Skoda reissue from Arcana (9cd)?  $25 shipped direct (worldwide) from Outhere's web store.  I am grateful Outhere's prices on all their labels are not that low, it would be a disaster for me.
B-S uses several beautiful instruments with little photos featured in the enclosed leaflet.  HIP porn.

Also I enjoyed Lambert Orkis' Virgin 2cd of impromptus, which includes some alternative drafts (?) apparently seldom recorded.

Also, I just listened to Lubimov's single disc of Impromptus, which is on pianofortes, but still vintage/period instruments, and they sound amazing.  That disc is an island keeper.  His Debussy now rises to the top of the to-buy list.  And I love his Mozart sonatas immoderately.  Lubimov!

I keep feeling the need to do 'thread duty' here and now I can't and it's making me so blue.

I started to say "wow!" but then I realized my Pile is around 250. The big boxes are the real killer. They're so temptingly cheap and big, but then you get them and suddenly they're no longer tempting, just big.

In a concerted effort to get through the 2nd Mercury Living Presence box, I'm nearly 2/3 done (in random order). Occasionally it starts to feel like work, at which point I back off. Meanwhile my single-disc-and-small-set sub-pile has had a few more adds than subtracts, and I haven't made any progress on the other 3 big boxes. The latter are the majority of my Pile. Fortunately at their price I don't feel any obligation to them.

The rest of MLP2 should take me about two weeks, then I think I can get the non-big-box sub-pile moving in the right direction. I'm sure I'll buy more stuff -- I just need to avoid more big boxes.

Ok, I'm 3 discs into my Mercury Living Presence 2 box (Dorati, Wooden Prince, Paray, La Mer, Images, Ravel Daphne, Bolero, etc.

Stopped counting at 750... ahem.  Still its coming down was at 4 figures a while back :)

Good to hear.  IF the rest of the music is as good as the samples it sounds like Scarlatti had a Handelian gift for melody and charm in chamber music.

On an unrelated note, I'm loving the information on how large the in piles of various members are.  It makes me feel much, MUCH better about my own ordering. :)

Granted, it's available in the Vivarte re-release box set now for pretty cheap, but at $5 shipped I don't think I can complain too much about jumping the gun and ordering the single disc.
