RE: Chopin, count me as a fan of the nocturnes.  They'll make a fine first listen, too. :)

Thoughts! :)

In other news, I was able to make the terrible sacrifice and pay $1.14 + shipping for this disc:

[asin]B000003J9W[/asin]

There's still a copy floating around on the MP for $1.57...

I also couldn't resist another set of the Vespers for $6 and change.

Geo Dude definitely buys more than I do now. :) I haven't really been buying as much as I used to which it makes me proud to say this.

Good for me, not so much for you. ;) :D

Indeed.  In your case you've settled into a period and set of composers and can now fill in the gaps.  In my case, I'm still jumping through periods and areas of interest (string quartets, vocal/operatic, etc.) which makes a difference.  I'm still trying to cut back, though.  (Shouldn't be too hard given the quantity I bought last month. :P)

and now thread duty:

At $4.50 and an interpretation/organ that seems right up my alley this an obvious purchase.

Based on my limited exposure to Boulez's music and this recording from Spotify, this is great music and recording

I'll try but it could take a little while... The Stack is shrinking but it's still probably two or three weeks' worth.

From Amazon:

Ludwig Van Beethoven--Symphony No.3 {"Eroica"} and Symphony No.8, both traversed by the George Szell led Cleveland Orchestra.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart--Symphonies Nos.28, 33 and 35, once again featuring Maestro Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra.

My apologies to Jens and the forum crew for the hemorrhoidal flare-up a page ago.  I regret it!   :(

From BRO.  My last batch for the near future, I mean it---you can believe it when you see/don't see it.
Thanks, as always, to more GMGers than are listed.  (My memory crumbles.)

[asin]B000852G1I[/asin]
Ferrabosco: PSALM 103, MOTETS, CHANSONS (Nevel/Huelgas - HM)

Regnart: MISSA SUPER OENIADES NYMPHAE (Cinquecento - Hyperion)

[asin]B005BZBXZA[/asin]
BAROQUE aka MASTERS OF 17TH/18TH CENTURY BAROQUE (HM, 10cd)
Mainly for the AAM Berlin's Brandenburgs, though everything else is of interest.

[asin]B000F5GROS[/asin]
Mozart sonatas by Michael Endres (Oehms)
This was a bit hasty, as on afterthought I wish I'd waited and gotten his 5cd collection of all the Mozart sonatas.  Still quite cheap, and I've enjoyed his Schumann and Schubert on the same label.

[asin]B00061GYMQ[/asin]
IN NOMINE: THE WITTEN IN NOMINE BROKEN CONSORT BOOK (Kairos, 2cd)
A double-clutch of miniatures by many hands, including Kurtag, Hosokawa, Walter Zimmermann, Rihm, Sciarrino, Gosta Neuwirth, Pauset, Ferneyhough, etc etc.

[asin]B000ZJVHRQ[/asin]
Dufay: MUSIC FOR ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA (Binchois Consort dir. Kirkman - Helios/Hyperion)

Handel: THE CHAMBER MUSIC (L'Ecole d'Orphee [HIP] - Passionato, prev. CRD [Musical Heritage Society?]...also reissued by Brilliant, but that one seems to be OOP and expensive now)

[asin]B000TIY3XI[/asin]
GREAT PIANISTS (Membran, 10cd)
Mainly for Anda's Schumann's DAVIDSBUNDLERTANZE (1965), though one friend told me he also really liked a number of other recordings from this set.  One kind Amazon reviewer has supplied the details including dates of performance, if you need to see it.
H/t Mandryka et al from the Davidsbundlertanze thread.

[asin]B000A7IJUG[/asin]
Liszt by Bavouzet (MDG)
Hat-tip Sonicman-Dave iirc, who linked to a Distler rave review of this disc.  I've been getting high on some Bavouzet lately.

[asin]B000002ZFX[/asin]
Bruckner: MASSES etc by Matthew Best/ECO/Corydon (Hyperion, 3cd)
Cheers, Neal.

[asin]B0037UTTAW[/asin]
La Reverdie: BESTIARIUM: ANIMALS AND NATURE IN MEDIEVAL MUSIC (Cantus)
It seems there are two different editions of this disc, with slightly different subtitles, the one above for the Cantus, and "Animals in the Music of the Middle Ages" for the Nuova Era reissue.  BRO confuses matters more by listing the Cantus edition but omitting the title "Bestiarium".  I think the content is the same, but it's been weeks since I checked.

Schoeck: PENTHESILEA (Walhall)
Martha Modl, Paula Brivkalne, Paula Lenchner-Schmidt, Res Fischer, Eberhard Waechter et al. Stuttgart State Opera Chorus & Orchestra/ Ferdinand Leitner. Rec. 12/15/57

[asin]B002JP9HSK[/asin]
Schoeck: ELEGIE (Klaus Mertens w/Mutare Ensemble - NSA, sacd)
alt. ASIN: B0013LTU6K
normal CD ASIN: B00000IYWO
cheaper at BRO ($8)

[asin]B004MRX8BU[/asin]
J.S. Bach: CLAVIER-ÜBUNG III (Matteo Messori - Brilliant, 2sacd)
The above ASIN link is for the normal CD edition; the only ASIN for the SACD set seems to be almost nonexistent  and expensive: B00CH887PS

[asin]B00009IC6M[/asin]
Mendelssohn: MOTETS AND PSALMS (Herreweghe - HM)
Alt edition: B00008V5SP
Hat-tip Jens.

[asin]B002HNA9M2[/asin]
Mendelssohn: ELIAS, PAULUS, + A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM etc [Herreweghe - HM, 5cd]
Thanks to....cannot remember.  There were a couple of you that loved the single disc of MND, and I was hoping for a ~HIP alternative to that lovely Decca (?) classic from Peter Maag and his Scots, which has given me immense pleasure.

[asin]B0000640C1[/asin]
Philip Glass: EARLY VOICE (Orange Mountain)
w/the relatively large work "Another Look at Harmony Part 4".
hat-tip Lethevich

Hat-tip...Jeffrey?  Cannot remember and the search function is out for the moment.

[asin]B004AB2FB2[/asin]
Chopin: THE 49 MAZURKAS (Luisada - Newton, 2cd)
These are reissued DG recordings; NTBC w/his recent RCA/Sony set (less complete, but supposedly sounds great).

[asin]B0002ANQWC[/asin]
Léopold Simoneau & Pierrette Alarie: OPERA RECITALS AND LIEDER (DG, 7cd)
A slight risk, because it's bleeding chunks; but having heard their singing here and there, I think they are both voices I love.  To this Anglophone, "Pierrette" is the cutest name ever.

[asin]B003EN2S9Q[/asin]
Schumann: SONATAS FOR PIANO & VIOLIN (Staier/Sepec - HM)
I loved Staier's Hommage à Bach (HM) so much, I had to hide it from myself.  Thanks to one or more people for the recommendation of this one.  (Premont?)

[asin]B002GYS0GY[/asin]
Beethoven: COMPLETE WORKS FOR PIANO & CELLO (Zuill Bailey & Simone Dinnerstein - Telarc, 2cd)
Cheers, Gordo.

Not, ahem, from personal experience.
Having watched a John Waters monologue recently, there's a more accurate term I could have used; but it really isn't fit for posting.   :blank:
