Some weeks ago, I purchased the downloads of Derzhavina and after a complete listening, I have decided that I need the physical discs.

Schiff and the Vivarte Collection have been in my wishlist for a long time. This is the third time that I order the Vivarte Collection, so I hope this time it will finally arrive.  :)

I ordered this once upon a time too. When they finally got around to actually making it available I had purchased half the contents in Sony's various smaller reissue boxes. I suppose that is called marketing strategy.

Just did a big order yesterday, but one more disc can't hurt, can it?

Yes, I own a half of those discs, but it's an attractive acquisition anyway .

1) If there was an De-Purchases thread, I'd post this there:  I canceled my pre-order of the Harmonia Mundi Baroque Opera box; I decided that my interest in baroque opera isn't deep enough to justify spending almost $70, especially since I have three of the recordings in that box already.

2) More affirmatively,   a visit to Barnes and Noble yielded Cecilia Bartoli's Mission (the deluxe "book" version), Alsop's recording of Mahler 1, and two CDs that belong in the non classical thread (but one of which, unexpectedly,  includes a track featuring Andreas Scholl.)

ETA:
3) Continuing the baroque vocal emphasis of this post,  ordered Joyce DiDonata's Drama Queens CD from Amazon MP.   Amazon reveals that she's releasing another album at the end of the month, but since it's Amazon,  give no details beyond the cover image and the CD title (ReJoyce).

The Nielsen orchestral masterworks whose interpretation took me by surprise, I will continue to make my way through this box:

Just bought:

Wow, John....I was reading through some of your old posts, some of which expressed your disliking for Schnittke's music! ??? That couldn't be more the opposite now! :D BTW are you ever going to change your avatar? ;) I feel an avatar change coming on. You'll probably be seeing someone else up there sometime today. :)

Yes, I am quite surprised by my attitude towards Schnittke. I never lost, however, my intrigue for his music. This is something that kept me coming back even when I clearly made that rash dismissal of his music. What a fool I was!

As for the avatar, no I don't plan on changing it anytime soon. I don't know how much longer I'm going to leave it up, but I know it's going to be later rather than sooner. :) Looking forward to your new avatar by the way.

After all, a poly-stylist deserved to have his avatar up there longer, at least longer than ... uh... uni-stylists.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.
