Pope Francis-- Favorite music: "Leonore" Overture No. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven conducted by the late-Wilhelm Furtwangler, "who, in my opinion, is the best conductor of some of (Beethoven's) symphonies and works by Wagner."
*drooling like an idiot*

Aah, screw it.  I just could not resist. I'm going to claim it as my Christmas present.  8)

There is going to be some duplication, I already own some of the recordings like The Ring and Tristan, but not much else.

What are the other ten (or rather the other one)?

When it comes to "box sets", that are not brick like or not, then this one is still probably my favorite:

4 discs here:

third would probably be the LvB Beaux arts trio set.

all new issues.
I noticed from Arkivmusic's item page that Hurwitz gave the Petrenko one of his 10/10s.
Be interesting to see if MTT can better the Hyperion recording of that cantata.

Excellent!  I hope you'll enjoy this performance as much as I do, Jeffrey.  :)

Let's just say it was the GMG 10/10s on this that impressed more than Hurwitz's.  But it was really just a question of when I would get it, not whether.

I'm guilty, too, I made one more purchase (no surprise):

Artem

I have that Cerha cd, or actually 2 cds. It's very good.

Excellent! Do you own any other recordings of Cerha's music that you could recommend? How's his Cello Concerto or the Violin Concerto?

Artem

I haven't heard the Cello Concerto and it's been a long time since i listend to the Violin Concerto, but I think those Cerha's CDs that were released on Kairos are all worth getting. I especially like the CD with Und du.... on it, which is a 60s tape piece about nuclear war. I also have several CDs of Cerha's chamber music on NEOS, which would be good to pick up after Kairos releases.

I'll definitely keep those other Kairos recordings in mind. What do you make of Beat Furrer's Piano Concerto? Have you heard it? There's a recording, also on Kairos, that looks interesting. I'm also interested in Bruno Mantovani at the moment as well. Do you know his music?

Artem

I'm not very familiar with those two composers that you mention. But I would like to investigate their music and some of their CDs have been in on my amazon wishlist for some time now.

I, too, have quite a few of these Kairos recordings under my radar. Maybe a peculiar question, but how is Kairos' packaging? I also bought some Scriarrino recordings from this label.

Time for my last purchase of 2013! If there's some kind of insane pricing error posted in Super Duper Bargains where somebody accidentally put the complete works of Beethoven up for $2, then sure. But aside from that, I'm done. See this thread in 2014.

I lied. I am a typical GMG member. Went ahead and counted the jumbo Murray Perahia anchor box selling for $67 shipped as an insane non-repeating price, especially after Amazon jacked it back up to $78. So, from ImportCDs...

In case anybody is wondering what my fast-breaking First Purchase of Spring 2014 is going to look like, I'm attaching a screenshot of the shopping carts on which I will be pulling the trigger in three months. But not yet!!!! For now, must resist! ???  ???  0:)
