In honor of Veteran's day, I'm writing something nasty about Benjamin Britten.  ;)

Ha! My ladies had to suffer through long-winded verbal reenactments of the battle. That probably explains why so few stayed long with me  ;D

My best friend photographed me giving a lecture on Balaclava ...

Very neat.

Problem with my reciting of Lord Alfred Tennyson is that I move myself so much that, at the latest, by the lines "but not.......................................... not the 600", I have to work hard at not starting to cry. Never sure whether it enhances the effect or whether it makes me look bathetic. :-)

From Charbier to Grieg, from Sibelius to Faure...

No, Brian -- haven't heard the BIS Pressler recital yet.
Remember fondly MP's 80th birthday recital at the Library of Congress... one of the first reviews I ever wrote. Well, one of the earlier ones, at least.

You should rather be playing "Veteran's Day, Poppy" with Captain Beefheart.

I jest, for the most part. I am writing about Britten right now, though... and it will be in the liner notes of an upcoming CD featuring the VC along with that of Weinberg's.

Excellent! Britten's VC coupled with Weinberg's?!?!? Oh, that does sound enticing.

Cool. I actually just came across your tweets. Can you give more info on the CD?

Ok, now that "tweet" sentence could be interpreted in some interesting ways.   :o  ;D

I'll get the work out of the way, first... then I'll spill all the beans. :-)

In all seriousness, this is my desert island Beethoven late sonatas disc, and probably in my top 20 desert island discs overall.

I know it. I have known Mrs. Crawford's work for awhile, but basically as a chamber musician (Atlantis trio and Schubert's lieders).

Your posts about her Beethoven disk prompted me to listen to her work as soloist and it was a wonderful find.  :)

INDEED! Mine was dispatched yesterday from Presto classical. Much praise was heaped on this set and for so long it has been out of print.
