Exciting stuff. Will listen to the other two tomorrow. Especially looking forward to #2.

I'm smelling the roses today; how about you? :)

Right now, a glass of wine from my own grape.  :D

Grapes :) (I am guessing that in Romanian, as in Russian, grape is a mass noun?)

Grapes are the fruits; in Romanian the noun can have both the plural form, struguri (as in The wine is made from struguri) or the singular, strugure (as in I ate a strugure, although in this case the idea is mostly about one cluster, not one single grape) --- but what I really meant to write was actually grape-vine.

Always my pleasure, Karl!

Two types: white, which I've been testing this evening, and red, which I'll be drinking next week, for the feast of St. Andrew (November 30).  :D

I smelt sulphuric acid and nitric acid. Not too many old ladies in the concert though, so it could have been worse.  :)

UPS tracking tells me those two will show up at my door tomorrow afternoon.  Fortunately I will probably be home and therefore it won't get soaked on my doorstep like the package from Prestoclassical that got dropped off today by the regular mail.

Question about the picture on the Brian recording:  what's that in his vest pocket?  Pacemaker, hearing aid, or something else? I assume it's not a really early version of the IPod.

Comment about the Vegh Beethoven for those considering it:  Naive has descended to using a large  foldout cardboard box, but refuses to give in to the fad of cardboard sleeves.  Inside the box are two jewel cases of 4 CDs each.  Liner notes are in English, French and German; but the track listings (which are given without CD numbers, and only in French) and the photo credits (which mention non-existent cover photos) apparently derive from an earlier release of this set, since the track listings give the quartets in numerical order but Quartets 11-15 are not quite in order;  the Grosse Fuge is inserted as a sixth movement in a seven movement Op. 130, and Op. 131 is a single 40 minute track.

The final installment of the Pacifica Quartet's DSCH cycle, which I ordered with these, apparently won't be sent until the first week of December.

I think that one could be a very viable contender for best all around Mahler cycle:  no single performance is the mythical "BEST", but the overall quality is very high.

My brother collected the entire Denon set, so I wanted to hear what got him to do so.

This means it is exactly the same as the previous edition: a fat baby with minor flaws in presentation. - I was wondering about that! :)

I don't know. The photo was taken, I think, during an interview. A recording device, microphone? If it's a hearing aid, it's in his other ear, out of sight.

I don't have the Haugsand disc, but I'm sure it's excellent, too.  :)
