Have you heard any of the new Naive Vivaldi CD (Vol. 56) of concertos for two violins? I listened to about two minutes of the first track before realizing it was so exciting I would not be able to concentrate on work and needed to wait 'til I got home.
No. I have concentrated on the operas (+ basson concertoes) n Naive since I have a reasonable collection of concertoes (+ Hyperions wonderful church music series) on the shelves already. Once those are completed, I fear I may go that route, but not yet.

I had to make a non-music purchase from Amazon, so I figured it couldn't hurt anything to slip just one little disc in.  I have greatly enjoyed Milnes' OVPP Bach cantatas so far.

Not having erato's self discipline,  I can say that it's as good as any of the other 55 volumes issued to date.

BTW,  Naive seems to have scaled back its ambitions for the project.  For several years the blurb in the liner notes of each recording would mention a target of 100 CDs to be issued by 2020.  This new CD replaces that the announcement that they are just two thirds of the way through, without mention an end date or a final figure of CDs issued.     But if 50 is about two thirds of the way through, that means a final total of 75-80 CDs for the series is now projected.

Several things showed up today:

Brian mentioned the Horowitz set on another thread and I realized I had very little of him -- just the concertos with Toscanini, I think. At just over $20, I couldn't resist.

I'm finally getting into Mahler. These are my first recordings of the 3rd and DLvdE. I'm not sure they're going to be my eventual favorites but the prices were right.

Purchased yesterday. Double harpsichords - I just had to! :)

Or perhaps they have recorded around 10 CDs worth that are to be released in the near future?

I ordered this from europadisc:

I bought the (too short) series of "Music of Bach's contenmporaries" on Hyperion a few years ago and found the Kuhnau disc musically the most satisfying.

Pretty good review at : http://www.musica-dei-donum.org/cd_reviews/CPO_777-532-2.html

Being a confirmed Hindeith nut, I also ordered this:

CPO presents the complete work of Hindermith's delightful Christmas Fairy Tale for December. Hindermith wrote this work for a small chamber orchestra and designed the vocal parts so that good actors would be able to sing them. Should be the perfect antidote to an overdose of Tchaikovski.

Arrived today, second time of asking (first set smashed in the post).

Time to catch up on those 80 or so symphonies I've never heard....might just do them all before Christmas!!

I had that on the wish list - you've beaten me to it! :D I already have Jan Katzschke's Matthias Weckmann disc (CPO) - superb playing.

Stingo, I am wild about that Cafe Zimmermann  box set of Bach.  It's jammin'.
I notice the price has come down a bit in the several months since I bought my copy; even at Amazon it seems to be ~$10 cheaper.

Pardon my stupidity, but the Amazon reviews and further links to a single disk are referencing a Quintet in A. What Quintet in A?

EDIT: Never mind, I have found the evidence that it's someone's transcription of the Kreutzer Sonata. Ugh.  Talk about false advertising. That cover should say "not actually the String Quintet, or indeed the other couple of string quintets you might possibly be thinking of".
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Pounds the table!!! Incredible recording right there. I don't care if it's early Martinu, it's a fine recording that I'm sure you'll enjoy, Octave.

I gotta chime in here. Nipponari and Magic Nights have become two of my favorite orchestral song cycles - I reach for them in a similar mood to when I'm reaching for Ravel's Sheherazade.

Well, it's hard not to be swayed by the charms of these works. Lovely music.

One more CD that is missing from my collection. But I am seriously considering not purchasing any more, regardless of how essential...
