This Mozart CD:

The recommendations of several GMGers, plus the general excellence of this group made this an easy choice for me. . .  Well, the price was also super-attractive, at less than $8.00 USD shipped!

It's been a while since I ordered some Mozart, so I am very excited to check this one out.

Pre ordered this the complete Beethoven string quartets by the Belcea quartet.  The same price as a single volume on amazon UK.

Oh and booked tickets to see John Lill and the Royal Philharmonic do the Egmont,  the Emperor and the Eroica.   Can't wait!

Very good :)

That's the famed recording with Kemp originally on EMI. To be honest I have always been a HUGE fan of Richard Strauss operas. There is so much of the orchestral works that are foreign to me and hey it is the 150th anniversary of his birth.

2 CD'S. To be honest I have no idea if this set is part of the CPE Bach set, but since I do not plan to buy that, ( have all I want from CPO) I ordered it. I will try and find that content list of the Brilliant set.

Thanks.  It appears that Scandali is not among the performers.
I do have Belder's "....fur Kenner and Liebhaber",  but it looks I don't have anything else .

Great acquisitions, Mirror Image:)

The Carter contains one of his most important works, the Symphonia, which is very, very impressive. I should listen to it again soon (haven't done so since I heard it live by the Spanish National Orchestra here in Madrid a couple of years ago)...

And as for the Boulez, I can only express my perplexity by the fact that my announcing a concert of his Le Visage nuptial in Paris next week seems to have triggered a debate in another thread as to whether Boulez is a nice man or not, or whether he's a great composer or not. I can only say I admire and enjoy his work immensely, and that this box permits the listener to appreciate his compositions in all their beauty (yes, beauty is the term), while also giving a sense both of his evolution as a composer and of the unity of his oeuvre. Do listen, if you allow me the recommendation, to Dérive 2, which I now believe is one of his greatest compositions (and the booklet mentions that 11 minutes of Dérive 3 are already composed!  :)). A pity that the set is not "completely complete"  :D , as some published works such as the fanfare Initiale and his orchestration of Ravel's Frontispice, as well as some unpublished (but not disavowed, as far as I know) pieces, like the incidental music to Thus Spoke Zarathustra, are not included  :( .

The Saariaho generated mixed feelings in me. She's a composer I admire and enjoy very much, but sometimes her music veers towards something approaching new age blandness. I got this impression with this La Passion de Simone (although I do recall a quiet stunning orchestral segment, and it's a pleasure to hear Dawn Upshaw again). The opera L'Amour de loin, in any case, is a magnificent achievement. That CD you bought is great, and so is the DVD with Dawn Upshaw on DG...

Thanks for your feedback. :) The Boulez seemed like a good purchase to me since I'm quite handicapped when it comes to his music. I know so little of it. I did hear Rituel a few years ago and thought it was quite an interesting work, but hopefully since I've gained more listening in high modernism such as Xenakis, Nono, Ligeti, among others that many of Boulez's works will prove, at the very least, to be enjoyable listens. Speaking of 'complete' sets I own that Britten The Complete Works on Decca and though they claim it to be complete, it really isn't. From what I've read, there still are some works missing. So you just have to take titles that claim the 'complete' tag with a grain of salt, because in many cases it's far from true.

As for Saariaho, this recording will hopefully be a good listen. I really enjoyed L'amour de loin, so it will be nice to hear another vocal-oriented work and Salonen is at the podium, so it should be good at least from a conducting standpoint. Yes, Dawn Upshaw is a pleasure to listen to no question about it. I really admire her singing.

I have no recollection of saying such a thing. :D I haven't taken my meds today, so you'll have to excuse my absent-mindedness. ;)
