Thanks to everyone for this very interesting discussion of Boulez. It's actually increased my respect for Boulez. (And also made me very happy, not for the first time, that Cosi bel do has chosen to return to the forum.)

What a wonderful rabbit hole you've fallen down into. The Supraphon Zelenka series is glorious, and so is a '90s Helios disc.

+1.
And Dombrecht's De Profundis, Miserere, Requiem disc is great.

Add the Nibiru series, also by Czech forces.

Excellent choice. Great performance. This work, Harmonielehre, and Naive and Sentimental Music are my favorite Adams.

Did you listen to the more recent works? Songbirdsongs, City Noir, Become Ocean?

Listened to Become Ocean a few times. Very good stuff. Checking out the other ones mentioned.

Agreed on all points! :) Let me add Zig-Zag Répertoire and an ongoing the series on Accent, all by Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale under Václav Luks.

There is a whole Zelenka revival! :o ??? :D

Well you're confusing the Adams here, Henk. I'm talking about John Adams not John Luther Adams. :)

Damn, how did I miss that the Collegium 1704 / Luks recordings weren't mentioned?! Get those now, and worry about other stuff (like eating, sleeping, working, paying the bills) later.

Different composer:  that is John Luther Adams.  The composer generally known as J. A. has the very New England middle name of Coolidge  8)

Ok, confusing indeed. Sorry. John Luther Adams deserves to be check out as well and City Noir is by John Adams. Gets high praise.

On Monkey Greg's recommendation. Love Four Last Songs and I've read nothing but great things about this J. Norman/Masur performance.

I've already heard several of J. A. Adams' works. I've been meaning to check out Become Ocean. I'll probably put it on my Christmas wish list. As for the other John Adams, I can't say I'm interested in what he's currently doing.

FYI, I saw the premiere of John Coolidge Adams' City Noir with Dudamel making his first appearance as principal conductor with the LA Philharmonic on PBS and I thought very little of the work when I first heard it. Seemed like one continuous web of half-thought out ideas with no kind of rhyme or reason to the musical proceedings.

A moment of rapt contemplation please. This is the greatest recording of the man's greatest piece.

Really? I find it overblown, too voluptous, and devoid of the rapturous and innocent mystery that these songs demands. I turn to della Casa any time instead.

Same thing. Della Casa too, and Lucia Popp also.
