I've heard Chung and Boulez. The Boulez is my go-to recording, but I don't think it is in one of those boxes. I do need to hear a few others since I like the piece so much.

Putting aside my enthusiasm for Et Exspecto..., a more logical suggestion if you like Visions de l'Amen is the Trois Petites Liturgies de la Presence Divine for strings, percussion, piano solo, onde Martinot, celesta, and women's chorus. I've heard a bunch of versions of this, but my favorites are the one with the Loriod sisters or the Cardon.

The third movement is stunning.

Thanks a lot! Might try some of this over the weekend!

The sight of all those twos unhinged me, and I splurged

[asin]B00L5J4QHS[/asin]

I was swayed by several factors
1. my experience with this group
2. Harry's praise
3. Florestan's praise
4. amw's dispraise  8)
5. that 22222 which could only be a sign from the splurge god.

That's almost $4.50 a disc and I fee faint and terrified at the enormity of what I have done.

What about the box art?

Minimal, I was told - but it still sucks to miss out on that bonus disc!

Here, a small shipment from Presto's with stuff that goes into the player immediately:

The Gardiner is mostly excerpts from the "Cantata Pilgrimage", a 46 minute thingie opening with a sinfonia and then adding various chorus, aria and duet parts of various cantatas, ending with a chorale, but the opening "Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn' ihn" (BWV 1127) is a later recording (2005).

Don't worry Karl -- it's my favorite Messiaen, but it is hardly similar to the works king ubu mentioned.

It's like someone telling me that they liked Pachelbel's Canon (HA! spellcheck wants to correct "Pachelbel" to "bellyache"  ) and having me recommend Gruppen. Well, not quite, but that's the idea.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

love those films!
Seen the first one but none of the rest. Vaguely remember reading the novel on which the first film was based.
Odd series name when you think of it, since the "thin man" is actually the victim in the first film,  and dead before the film really starts.

This has probably actually happened on the Introductions forum.

No thread duty today.

Herbie & Hammett!

The first movie I recall drops the line where Nora asks Nick if he got a boner. Gotta read the book!

I decided to pre-order Anderszewski's new Bach, to see how close to the release date I get it.  I've not pre-ordered a classical CD before, though I did order Anderszewski's Symanowski disc from England months before it became available in the US many moons ago, so it sort of figures I'd do the same here.  I also figured I might as well get a couple more Mendelssohn sets.  Why not?

Have nothing by PHQ, so good way to start rectifying that omission.
Not sure if this is the Kubelik Bluebeard mentioned in the Bluebeard thread the other day...

Arkiv has a new ploy with Steinway CDs....order before the official release date and the pianist autographs the album before shipping.  Already have Stewart Goodyear's autograph.

Possible, but my brain keeps pushing Stephen Collins's name at me.
