I got the Rubinstein box basically because of the price, trying to get into Chopin and also constrained by my parents gift limit and trying to get other things as well (not trying to complain about that).

But if I was considering that box, I am glad I didn't look at the review giving it two stars (which probably would have driven me away from it without even looking).
At the current price, I agree with the review. But at the same price, I got 70% of the Rubinstein box PLUS another 7-8 discs. That isn't bad, especially as what I really wanted was the Nocturnes by Rubinstein (most of all). And since I paid less than $16 (for new, not used), not a bad deal really.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Actually so far I've only read some stuff by Rosen, don't think I ever heard a tone played by him (maybe some short stuff on youtube). But yeah, the repertoire alone made this set desirable to me! And knowing some of the man's opinions piqued my curiosity even more!

Egged on by Presto Classical's choice of best 100 discs of the year and their top 10 pick, I purchased the Fagioli-Porpora arias disc and the Barenboim/Argerich take on The Rite of Spring. I think I'll put them on tonight...

I heard Rosen's Ravel Gaspard and got turned off by how fast and insensitive it was...I trust that there are much better performances elsewhere in the box?
