Will do, Moonfish. You never heard Berlioz's Harold In Italy, Romeo et Juliette, or the Requiem? Wow!!!!

Moonfish has the wonderful "Harold in Italy" in the Living Stereo 1 box.  Charles Munch.  Put it on, Moonie, you'll love it.
It's all good...

Munch/BSO/Berlioz is a luscious combination.  (The missed repeat in Harold en Italie notwithstanding  8) )

That's a great performance! He should listen to that work ASAP!

My last humble order for the year 2014, as a sort of farewell to what that year gave in terms of happiness but also in hardships.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

All masterpieces, and all IMO even better than the SF. Also L'Enfance du Christ.

Now you have me hankering to buy some new Berlioz! Drat you to heck!

Franco Fagioli, countertenor: Porpora il Maestro. 80 minutes of countertenoring in florid baroque arias .

Fagioli is technically outstanding as a countertenor, but I think his voice timbre isn't the most pleasant imaginable. Matter of taste, of course.

But that's also good if you consider it a challenge. A few months ago I considered the issue of all I had to listen to and decided it was a question of discipline. Listen to at least 2 or 3 new CDs everyday and no collection could resist you more than a few months. I know that even with a dozen boxes waiting for me, I must not have more than 500 CDs I haven't listened to yet. If I keep this pace I'll have finished them all in less than 6 months.

What! Just 500!   ;) ;) ;)

I'm in that range too. But I am making brave attempts at digesting more than I intake. There IS hope !  0:)

Absolutely right. I sampled online before going to the record store and decided that the music was worthy of my time and money, grating timbre notwithstanding. Actually, I should say 'very slightly grating'. He is still a virtuoso, as you rightly point out.  ;)

I finally succumbed to the Festetics Haydn fever.... !  I tried to resist, but it is New Years Eve! Pass the port, please!

:P Although, I still love Symphonie Fantastique despite it clearly belonging to the mainstream orchestral repertoire.

Ordered from Amazon MP.  Presumably the final order of 2014

My fourth recording of L'Orfeo, but only my second recording of Poppea and Ulisse (Jacobs is the other in both cases.)

Dancing Divertimentian

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I was wrong.  This was the final order of 2014.*

I decided to start 2015 off with a bang, buying everything I've been itching to buy lately.  This should tide me over for months – LvB piano sonata recordings excluded.  This group of orders marks the first time I have ordered from New Zealand.

I know Francois Dumont from the live 2013 Van Cliburn recordings. Truly outstanding Ravel "Gaspard" in one of his recitals.

Osborne's Rach is a little studied, but I enjoy it. Leon McCawley is doing those preludes on a new release this February.

The Zehetmair is very, very tempting.

My own gigantic order will follow shortly!
