Where did you find the film music set?! I thought it was out of print.

I bought it from Amazon US from an MP seller. The price was quite hefty, but this set is as good as gone now.

Artem

That's a great find, I think.

I think so, too. ;) I've actually had my eye on this set for quite some time and I should have bought it years ago, but Takemitsu is still a process of discovery for me even though I owned a good bit of his music prior to the purchases above. There's just not enough hours in the day to hear everything I want! :)

Is that "Concerto for orchestra" the one in which he cut part of the ending because he didn't like it?

Yes. It's a shame, since the recording is terrific: the orchestral playing is superb, and the sound quality is excellent. And then, there's the ending, which is surely as disappointing to many others as it is to me.

But that said, it's a recording worth having - certainly worth hearing once. (The Janacek is fantastic.)

I try to go for the original recordings whenever I can, but, yes, I knew of this 2-CD set's existence. Thanks for pointing it out, though. :)

I am still looking for the short piece Vocalism (also called A-Yi, I think). It should fall into film music category since it was composed for a short animated feature, I think. Is it included in the film set?
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

That one is a shot in the dark for me. I do not know the music of Valentini but I am quite prepared to give it a go with Ensemble 415 / Banchini performing.

Hmmm. Didn't he have like the biggest funeral in Hollywood history? Or am I misremembering?
