Oopsie, 19 cd's came in this afternoon, still 8 cd's by Vasks in backorder, but a lot to enjoy. It was some time since I had such an amount of cd's in one go

Very tempting.
Ask Jens to talk you out of it.  >:D (or just listen to some of the recordings on Youtube)

The 36 cd set of the Haitink Symphony Edition came in today. I know most of those discs from lp or cd days, but having the rest is a bonus. Included are: symphonies by Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Schumnn. I treasure these discs for the wonderful performances of the Consrtgebouw, whose plasticity is second to none (well, maybe Vienna...) and for Haitink's artless, elegant and probing conducting. Not to mention the ne+ultra sonics.

Too bad the RCOA + LPO set of the Shostakovich symphonies was not included as well... :(

Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Tickets to the Brahms recital this Thursday.

:)

Regular gf has to work that evening (nurse) so will go with a friend - she is not too familiar with classical music, but likes it, so hope it will open her ears a bit.
When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."

And you're worried about Karl breaking a table? You're forgetting about me. Consider that table completely demolished. ;D
