Yeah, I know ... seems to be many's favorite Bach cantatas disc. Guess I'll have to wait for the right moment to spin it  :)

Ooooh! I have to get that. Reconstruction of Le Ballet Royal de la Nuit. Pre-Lullian French baroque at its grandest andt he exact moment in time when Louis XIV became The Sun-King.

Haven't heard or read anything about it yet, just had to get it. It's a nice book with lots of stuff to read  (most of it by Daucé, English/French), plenty of images, lyrics (translated into English, Italian and German). There's a short intro in German and one in (I guess?) Korean.

Alas, the paper is rather glossy and heavy, my discs had some glue/traces on them ... packaging-wise, the Ediciones Singulares, Glossa and Ricercar folks are better, this HM set is most similar to the later (i.e. the Grétry Caravane set).

But nonetheless, it looks mighty fine and I'm looking forward to listening!

I look forward to know your opinion about this set. These guys are a little bit irregular, but when they are good, they are.

Interesting; I know nothing about them myself.

I've become a bit obsessed with Schoenberg's Pelleas und Melisande lately, and also been re-acquainting myself with the Violin Concerto.

Absolutely an advantage having this without those eyes staring at you.

The man's gaze matched his music very well.  I can always bring up the cover on my iPad for the right effect.

He even looked intense playing ping pong:

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

What do you think, Poju?  When I went to Rochester, it was in hopes of studying with Schwantner.

Just arrived today, very much enjoying it! This viola d'Amore of Pine's has a wonderful sound, and her excellent playing on the violin transfers to this instrument flawlessly. Definitely worth your while if you are a Vivaldian! :)

Whilst I don't like the violin concerto as much as the piano concerto, Pelleas et Melisande is a masterwork performed all too rarely! Perhaps not his finest orchestral work, but imo a work worthy of a mozart's 40th type stature...

I've been notified that this has arrived today  :) in a second office I have in Madrid (and which is much more convenient to use as a delivery address for amazon et al.):

Florent Schmitt's J'entends dans le lointain... is a stunning piece in its solo piano garb (as the frist movement of Ombres), and I really look forward to listening to the version for piano and orchestra (which here receives its first recording). And Brian speaks wonders of Vincent Larderet's recordings of Ravel's music for piano solo, so let's see how the concertos are  ;)
