I have long had the Busoni Piano Concerto with Hamelin on my wishlist. For some reason I never bought it. I now know it was because I was destined to own another - the recording with Peter Donohoe performed live at the 1988 Proms under the baton of Mark Elder. It just arrived yesterday and I am very excited based on the bits I heard and the reviews.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Attending a performance of the Busoni with Hamelin is one of my unforgettable experiences. As much for the incredible performance as for the wretched venue (a movie theatre transformed into a small concert hall with highly uncomfortable seating and clangy sonics).

Just bought:

ComposerOfAvantGarde

I found this for $2 at a local record shop when waiting for a music shop to open (I was test driving some synths this afternoon). This is my first Villa-Lobos recording of music other than his guitar works: the Bachianas Brasileiras nos. 5, 2, 6 and 9. I already know and love no. 5 actually, so the others I am sure would be intiguing...especially no. 2 as I am a fan of orchestral music.

(image just from internet, my copy seems to be pre-owned by a library judging from the stickers on the cover)

WOW! You're really feasting on the work of Mariss Jansons these days.

These Mahler recordings I actually bought for my dad (his birthday is Jan. 1st) as he's the Mahlerian in the family. :) I'm sure they'll be good that is if you enjoy Mahler. Personally, I'm not a great fan of his music.

Sitkovetsky's Elgar VC is very fine, I think.

Excellent, Daverz. Elgarian was speaking of how Sitkovetsky's performance at the Malvern Hills completely blew him away and with Menuhin (quite a good conductor) at the helm, it should be quite good. We'll see how he does against my current favorite Tasmin Little.

Through all sadness the Bach Vernet box arrived, I am fondling it.
Thank you Que.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

If any music could bring some relief and consolation in these troubled times for you, it might be Bach.... :-\

BTW purchased yesterday:

Bach's grandest secular cantata, almost a kind of mini opera!  :)
I already have Harnoncourt's recording, which had very little exposure on CD but is really awesome.
Stiil, a complimentary good modern recording with singers of this calibre would be most welcome!

I ordered the Vivaldi 45 days ago from Arkivmusic,  but it changed from in stock to to special order to cancelled for unavailability, so this replaces the original order.

That is one of the very best Haynd symphonies sets available. (And one of the recordings that Harnoncourt recorded in his old age that I actually like...)
You won't regret it. :)

Love to hear more about those in due time.  :)

I was quite impressed by Esfahani's contribution to this set, which I can strongly recommend:
