Sinfonietta is immediately accessible, I'd say. (A problem here is rather that one might find it a bit to noisy at the surface.)
I was also fascinated by the Glagolitic mass as a relative newbie (but have until now never found enough leisure for the operas). For someone interested more in later 20th century music, the string quartets would also be a good option.

I honestly don't even remember why I didn't like it. Which means I need to hear it again!
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

The best I can remember, you called Sinfonietta disjointed and found the whole thing rather jarring. :)

Just bought:

I bought the Barbara Hendricks/MTT recording for Copland's Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson, which I didn't own a recording of at all.

But that sounds like something that is right up my alley!

Didn't recognise that recital, so I went looking for the original cover, which appears to be this:

...which I've also somehow never seen before

Yep, that's definitely the original cover. Here's another issue of it (on CD):

I very, very nearly bought that. But then decided to put Dawn Upshaw's disc with the same Ravel and Delage on my shopping list instead. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

The third disc of Alwyn symphonies (Nos. 1 & 3, RLPO/Lloyd-Jones) arrived this morning. The cycle is now complete!  :D

I haven't listened to the Baker, but the Upshaw is excellent (as almost everything this great artist has recorded). Don't hesitate on that one, if I may be so bold!  :)

No, not hesitating. It'll be in the next block. My purchasing process just isn't GMG-typical. When I've got as far as listing a specific album like that, it will get here eventually.

Since I'm one who likes having more than one performance of the same works, I really wanted to hear Baker in these song cycles. By the way, go ahead and pull the trigger on the Upshaw. It's excellent, but my reference for Trois poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé is still Jill Gomez/Boulez and I've heard, and own, many performances of this masterpiece. The one I liked the least was Otter's on Deutsche Grammophon. I don't know exactly why but I just didn't think she sounds right in French music.

Anybody knows about this site:   http://forgottenrecords.com/en/catalogue.php    ?

They specialize into LP to CD transfers of old recordings (over 50 years old to avoid copyright issues). I have purchased many such records in the past from other sources (Bearac and Haydn House), but have become quite concerned with the quality of their products.

Any advice ?

I have seen quite a few of the Forgotten Records releases get full reviews on MusicWeb - might be worth checking to see if the reviewers talk about the production quality.

I have bought several  times from them. It's either OOP recordings or concert broadcasts (they are very scrupulous in giving  all the details of the original recording). issues ar "no-frills", but well proudced IMHO.  I've never had any trouble with their products (which in any case I presume are CD-Rs).

And the owner is a very friendly man: when I placed my first order with him, he added an extra CD free of cost (Silvestri conducting Dvorak and Enesco, as most of my order was music by Enesco). He also has some great Florent Schmitt rarities.

I recommend this source wholeheartedly.

I'm impressed, just from having a look at the site. It does seem like an operation that is very clear and upfront about what you're getting, which is the way this sort of reproduction should be done.
