Thanks to a now deleted post of Neal, I ordered some omissions in my collection of Friedrich Fesca. I was unaware of the fact that I never ordered them. So that's remedied.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Hi Harry - I own and enjoy the 4 CDs of Friedrich Fesca (1789-1826) mentioned in your blog; and also the two below of his yet shorter-lived son, Alexander Ernst Fesca (1820-1849) - both recordings made impressions on the Fanfare reviews (attached PDF) - Dave :)

I find a regular enjoyment in this set. He filled in a hole in terms of musical history for me (one I didn't even know was there). Hope you enjoy it!

Hi Neal - my same feelings about Martin's performances of Gottschalk's music - I bought the 8 discs separately from BRO (about $7 each - better price now w/ the box which is also now at BRO).  I'm currently viewing the DVD set below, and lecture 12 is about Gottschalk and his historic times - presented well by Greenberg.  Dave :)

The new erato

I ordered this from presto:

L'Oiseau-Lyre: Medieval & Renaissance

I have 13 of the discs, but the 37 remaining discs contains such a wealth of unknown and otherwise unrecorded repertoire that purchase was unavoidable.

I wait a little until the price has gone down. There is enough for me too, which is still not in my collection. But I have about 24 discs in that box, hence the price must come down.

Yeah - its abridged, but it's the still the best performance I've ever heard. Really fine stuff.

Got this for about $16 at importcds, which is a great price for an Opera Rara set (and they hey sent me a $5 voucher because I had left stuff in my basket :) ).

New composer for me, but hard to go wrong in any Hyperion concerto series.

Still $13 at Amazon (3 discs), so pretty good price for an opera totally new to me.

Haven't heard this type of music from Hummel before, so giving it a go.

PS - This is my first purchase in several months! :)

I realized it was a different Fesca, not Alexander. I must admit, I hadn't realized there was more than one. Apologies for the confusion - I thought I got it before anyone saw it.

No, no, not a problem at all. You made me aware of Friedrich, and that made me happy, so all's good. You should make more often such mistakes!

While listening to JC Bach and looking at the two discs in my collection of his brother, i.e. JCF Bach, I was perusing Amazon for some more additions; well, not much more of interest to me, but a found the CD below which looked interesting so made a purchase - superb review on MusicWeb HERE - Dave :)

I think the violinist on the last disc looks fat. She wouldn't have had a breakthrough these days.

Fat or slim when Herr Karajan thinks you have potential you're going places!
