Tchaikovsky wrote songs too, I heard a couple on the radio yesterday, and both of them made it necessary to investigate further.  One of them I am sure I've heard before, or perhaps it was the music behind it, don't know, but it seemed to me it was well known.  Didn't understand what the Radio presenter said they were, but 'Tchaikovsky' and I think '3 songs' were mentioned, maybe not.  I'm no Lieder man, but...maybe I am after hearing two of these songs.
Not much to go on, but any ideas what they could have been?  Once I find out I will get them and check the lyrics to discover what all the wonder-warbling was about.  It could be an entry into Lieder I never expected...

Hi John,

The first song I ever heard of Tchaikovsky's, is one of his more popular ones:  None But The Lonely Heart

Speaking of Russian songs, I just received my massive Rimsky-Korsakov 25 disc Brilliant Classics edition (still in the wrapper, it's so freshly arrived)  ;D

Within the 25 disc set, includes 3 discs devoted to songs.  Looking forward to exploring Rimsky-Korsakov in a more in-depth manner.

Thank you Ray!  That's the very one!  With Mezzo-Soprano!  Now investigating further...  ;D

And now I see it was Six Songs, not three.   :P

Don't get the Naxos set. An unpleasant voice when singing forte.

Tchaikovsky didn't write any poor quality songs, so if you can find a good singer you are on to a winner. I don't have any particular singer to recommend, sorry.

After None but the Lonely Heart, there a few that are commonly heard. It could have been Don Juan's Serenade or Solitude (Again alone, Once again alone, or something along these lines). Oh, and perhaps the Cradle Song/Lullaby  Not sure if that is what you heard, but here are a few links:

But there are so many. Here are a few more you may like (and some different singers):
