Hi all!
I was thinking of branching out in my classical music composers, and i was wondering if Delius is a good composer to get into.
I've heard one or two bits of his and they were gorgeous.
Is his music easy to get into?
Are there any pieces i could try first?
I did see this on amazon and it looks great for the price but its a complete Boxset and i don't want to waste money if i only like a few pieces.
Here is what i was looking at.......

Any advice would be welcome!
Thanks all! ;)

If you look at every second or third post on GMG the past 2 or 3 months, you will find all the answers you need.  It's been nothing but a 'Delius Deluge' on GMG as of late.  There is a thread on him, in the Composer Discussion section.

I'm extremely new to Delius also, and I can assure you that his work is sublime, to my ears at least!

To answer your specific question:

That box-set is filled with his most beautiful pieces and at that price should be gobbled up before Amazon realise their error (!) but only once you have decided that he is the composer for you. I listened to one CD of his, which was purportedly not one of his easiest to enjoy, and immediately ordered that specific box set.

Amazon are cheapest right now for that item btw.

Hope this helps... ;)

I am pleased to have several recordings, but avoid decaffeinated coffee when listening to Delius.

You don't need to look. The Delius thread will soon arrive at a place near you. Just wait a little while.......

I'll echo others' advice here: Delius is a very distinctive composer that not many people love, but when they do love him, they really do. Try a couple pieces on YouTube (say, "Irmelin prelude" and "the First Cuckoo in Spring"); if you like 'em, take the plunge. :)
