I agree, the greatest French composer of the century, after Debussy & Ravel. His string Quartet will be always among my absolute favorites.

I was at an Arditti quartet recital a few years ago listening to the fine but in reminiscent, even in 1976, Ainsi la nuit.

Don't you feel the remarkable French and delicacy and caution can't counter the false consciousness of the traditional shape of the themes an in attempted and unconvincing post-tonality? The Violin concerto was the best he could make of his unfortunate historical circumstances.
