I always knew the marathon was big, I'm just now learning how big it is for the entire city of Boston.

Which also hosts the only baseball game in MLB to start that early. I believe it was 11:30am?

Aye, as a Washington Post columnist wrote lately:

Quote from: E.J.DionneBut for many people from Massachusetts, myself included, the day also carries intense personal memories. If I'm honest, my real love is explained by the fact that for several years, my late father and I would catch a Red Sox day-night doubleheader. There was a game in the morning, then we would go out to have lunch and watch the end of the Boston Marathon, and then we'd be back to watch the Red Sox later in the afternoon. Countless families had comparable Patriots' Day rituals. To celebrate freedom, baseball and the international competition of the marathon all at once was something we could only do in Boston.

Chap in the next cubicle but one has a roommate, and two other friends (brothers), who are all still in hospital. One of the brothers lost two limbs. Please remember Anthony's friends in your prayers.

Very sad, Karl.
I read a story about two brothers who each lost a leg, one of the brothers was in worse condition. I'm wondering if these are the same brothers.

Karl Henning

Oh, perhaps; I may have misheard, and wound up misdistributing the limbs!

I should share a positive paragraph of the story.  All four lads were there at the finish line. Anthony left the scene about 40 minutes before the explosions, a pre-arranged meeting with his fiancée.

That woman was his salvation . . . .

Parsifal

It is remarkable how the circumstances of violent events affects our perception of them.  After all, in a typical day about 80 Americans die in traffic accidents.  That's about 4 deaths per hour.  I can't imagine it is more pleasant to be killed in a traffic accident than to be killed by a bomb.

I think the difference is the risk and threat involved. It's common that everytime you get in a car an accident is likely, I was just hit by someone who ran the red light traveling at 60mph, even with a green light/right of way there is always a threat.
A parade, sporting event, school or in this case, a marathon/holiday seems very unlikely there would be any risk. It's a family friendly event with a very positive vibe throughout an entire city.

And traffic accidents are just that:  accidents.  This was intentional.

FBI photos release: Look at photo 8 of one of the suspects. While the other photos are too unclear, this one is pretty good.

My apologies for thinking the mossad did it. They hired teenagers to do it.

Watertown in lockdown

The Washington Post current headline is "Boston on Lockdown." Are you locked down, Karl, or did you get to work?
