The Exploratorium museum in San Francisco (exploratorium.edu) will open its new location on Pier 15 in San Francisco tomorrow, 17 April 2013. This is a $300 Million dollar project, and greatly increases the exhibit space and ease of access for visitors (much easier public transport options and parking). The waterfront location, the architecture, and the exhibits are all amazing, and I encourage everyone with any interest in science, art, experimentation, tinkering, and beautiful views to come out for a visit.

They have selected eleven of my scanning electron micrographs of microbes to form a large (12' x 4') permanent exhibit in their Life Sciences Hall (The East Gallery). Here is the image. There is more information available on the display and these organisms on my webpage (kevinjcarpenter.com).

I am also in the job market--if you know anyone interested in this type of imaging.

Enjoy.

Yes, those photos are fascinating.  Best wishes with the exhibit and networking!

very impressive.  Could you do a larger post of the caption to make it more readable too?

Thanks. Funny you should mention the caption--I co-authored the caption you see in the lower right with the Explo staff. They had to greatly reduce what I gave them and re-work some of the language. Their goal is for it to be intelligible to a middle-school/jr. high student. However, I am (right this very minute) working on a much more detailed figure legend that will be available on my website. Stay tuned...
