Karl, which conductor(s) takes on your newly acquired set for the cantatas?

Hoy, Bill!

Variously, Harnoncourt & Leonhardt for the sacred cantatas. The secular cantatas shared among more conductors, still, including . . . oh Lord, I now own an André Rieu recording . . . .

you didn't already with one of your Haydn Trumpet Concertos?   8)

If it's any relief: Neither of them are the André Rieu... which is André Rieu fils... but André Rieu père.

Bogey, you need some Richter in there. He recorded many of the cantatas over the decades, but generally you just need the older ones from 1959 through the 60s.

Here's his Actus Tragicus from 1966. No other recording does it for me.

Did a search for this one, Kevin.  Will have to look a bit more or buy a used 3 cd set, which would also work.  Thanks!

Another glaring omission in your collection is the glorious Trauer-Ode (BWV 198), a funeral cantata as the Actus Tragicus.

And this disc (with a very beautiful program) would be a fantastic solution, IMO:

If you like HIP Karl you are in for a real treat.  I bought the Harnoncourt/Leonhardt sacred cantatas quite a few years ago and have enjoyed it tremendously.  Such raw and earnest performances. I believe I must have gone through all those 60 CDs a few times over the past years.  This is the set I own:

Splendid, Marvin! And in that case, the Bach-on-a-flash would be to a substantial degree redundant for you.

Purchased the Rilling set recently and am working through it. It's my first complete set though I have the 26-disc Richter and the 20-disc Werner on Warner. Quite enjoying it.
