We may have gotten slightly off-topic. We'll probably catch hell when Pat B returns to his thread and sees the mess we've made  :D

I could have kept it on topic by describing the old Padres uni as looking like a Pile of something...

Anyhow, my pile consists only of the Mercury Box, which I have opened and have only listened to the old Dorati Rite of Spring only, with the rest yet to gain a hearing.

I no longer have a not-listened-to pile.  New acquisitions go directly into the general collection where they get listened to, whenever.

I just got the Leon Fleisher Complete Recordings box set and that's a major portion of the pile. A lot of the... oh, heck, pictures.

Here. I took highlights - not all! just highlights - from my current Pile. That is, albums or box sets I have not heard in full, or have heard only once and still need to fully absorb. The highlights are arranged for your viewing pleasure in a manner I thought was amusing. Clicking will make the image much bigger.

This is relatively small, probably, given that I also review 5-6 CDs every month and devote a disproportionate amount of listening time to those out of necessity.

My not-listened-to pile just keeps growing.  I'd swear it grows even when I'm buying nothing; my wife agrees.

This is very much my situation. I haven´t any physical not-listened-to pile any more. It only exists in my head. I probably own about 1000 CDs I haven´t listened to yet. When I acquire new CDs, I listen to some of them at once, but many others have to wait. I try to get through them by listening to a new CD for every second I listen to. Of course big boxes may be hard to get through.

Moved several piles from my desk to the music library...but it didn't take long for the desk to sprout new piles. Damn hard to get rid of once infected.

oops ... sorry. Wrong kind of piles.   :-[

LOL. I thought that digression was funny... but I'm glad to see some on-topic responses too. :)

I've decided to not even count the big boxes. Several discs have moved off of my Pile, but I found 3 stragglers and the Vivaldi/Biondi 4-CD set showed up, so I'm still at 26. I subscribed, just so I could attach this rather poor photo of them.

I have several hundred thousand LPs, and 78s in my underground bunker. I have a complete inventory of spare parts for my various VPI, Oracle, SME, and Thorens turntables and tonearms, along with scores of Benz, Koetsu, and Sumiko, and Shure cartridges in special temperature/humidity controlled, antimagnetic, vibration-free, dustproof refrigerated rooms. I have miles of cord from Cardas, Kimber, Audioquest, too many speakers to mention, and multiple sources of off-the-grid power with backups. I have about 85,000 CDs and several dozen players and A-D converters. I have a stash of vacuum tubes like you would not believe

Did you remember to put some canned food and water in your underground bunker?

Well, that's very interesting, even if not topical. Hopefully your next step is to install a pneumatic tube connected directly to amazon headquarters, so you can continue to receive CD shipments between the apocalypse and the arrival of Costner.

My Pile is down to about 17.

You gotta seriously stop Super Duper surfin'   (only messing)

Mine is appx 30+ individuals & 20+ box sets.  I must have bumped many CDs downwards each time a new batch comes in.  I really need to stop for a month.

I know... its an addiction... its all these cheap boxes..

I'm not helping myself though I've got another 3 on order...

I think some will never be listened to, I've bought far too much just cos it's cheap.  But when you can pick up boxes at a £ per disc, new full price releases have to be really special.

Did you have a look at the Marco Polo/Dacapo sales by Naxos Direct?

I picked up about 15 for £1 each.

Szymanowski 3 & 4 & Gliere's Murometz real bargains.  I even got involved in electronic music as a sideline Lol.

yeah I did, loads of stuff I had never heard of which is normally a reason to jump in but I resisted!
I am hopeful a delivery will arrive tomorrow in which case I'll post it under the purchases today thread.. I expect when elaborate, you'll be saying you jammy ***  >:D

Todd

After reading this thread, I don't feel so bad.  I have about a dozen discs I have not yet listened to at all, and about a dozen more in my second listen pile.  My personal listening system is to listen to all new discs on my main system first, and then again at work through headphones.  All discs get two spins at least.  I do have 3000+ discs or so, I'm guessing, that have only been played a couple times, though.

Listening pile just gone up by one.  Gorecki 3rd, Kazamierz Kord on Philips Solo label.  Mint from zoverstocks.  19p, those guys are great, every now and again you may get a scratched one but most of the time they are pretty much as new.

Think that's where I am heading Todd, I have the same way of doing it.  Main system, 2nd if I like what I hear.

As a kid I would listen to some albums 100's of times over and over.. now most stuff is lucky if it gets to a third spin.  That's why I need to stop buying, not because of the money, but because I am not giving them the attention they deserve.

(of course, saying and doing are two very different things). ;D

Dang it Anthony! - you're my bloody pusher!
