Yes I've folded that cat before several times.  One was an Origami prize to one of my students for greatly improving, and then again for my Mother who likes cats, and a third time for me.

I own hundreds of books, they all have their strengths and weaknesses.  If you're looking for a recommendation to get in, what I use to teach my students is Teach Yourself Origami by John Montroll.  As a math teacher, he knows what he is doing.  He introduces each fold or technique one at a time with multiple practice models.  As you proceed through the book you not only master the basics but you also learn to read diagrams.

My favorite book is Origami Essence by Roman Diaz.  He really captured elegant shapes in his models with his own aesthetic, and they are suitably complex without being ever difficult or frustrating.  I've folded every single model in that book.

And the most difficult book I own is Origami Nature Study by Shuki Kato which is very, very, very difficult.  Really only for the best, most experienced, advanced folders.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and recommendations David!  I'll check into them (perhaps I can borrow the Montroll one from a library?).  I've noticed also that different sizes of paper are called for for different creations.  Does JM call for just one size (so that I'm not buying a lot of different sizes all at once)?

Most models in that book can be folded with the standard 15 cm (6 in) kami.  The advanced section in the book will require 25 cm (10 in).

    I've been watching financial scarifiers on YT just for kicks and occasionally I respond with a comment. Usually the gist of the vid is something about the world coming to an end. Also, there will be no more dollars because there are too many and they are too strong or weak or both. I respond thusly.

I did my taxes!  I've been watching the various forms pile up on my desk across the month and finally received the last ones.  It seems like the older I get the more tedious and complex filing taxes becomes.

I'm researching stocks. My Codefendant might buy something for herself so I have to find something she wouldn't mind owning. Ideally it would resemble a small furry animal, something cute and cuddly. Unfortunately those are rare and "overbought".

Last year, I read a book called 'Investing: The Last Liberal Art'. It was a fun read though I'm not an investor.

I think it is more fun to look but not buy.  Because then you get to walk away seeing cool things, but also knowing you still have cash in your wallet and no buyer's remorse!
