Quote from: DavidW on May 18, 2025, 04:35:02 PMI'm getting close to the end. I attended our academic awards ceremony today (luckily, I didn't have to present), and I will give my final on Saturday.

Wooo! Finish line in sight!

Quote from: Kalevala on May 18, 2025, 02:08:19 PMO.k., 1) what is an OCR program?, and 2) an A4?  :-[

And, as you might have guessed, I'm also interested in the history of cooking and of food.  We all have our own "nerdie" interests.  ;D

May I ask (even roughly) what your academic specialties are?

Happy packing...well, er, maybe more wishing the two of you the strength and sanity to get you on through.

Best,

K

Yuk. My post didn't post 🫤

OCR is simply a scanning software to digitise pages of books, and A4 is the standard European size for a notebook - about 200 mm by 190mm, I think.

I like your nerdy interest! And yes, we certainly do!

You can ask! History and Theology, and History and Literature. We cover different periods, though 😊

Thank you! We'll get there!!

Well, summer break beckons, I'm way too young to retire.

Any fun/interesting plans for this summer?

I'll be flying home to spend some time with my parents. I'm also planning on adopting a dog.

Hope that you enjoy your time with your parents.  Is the adoption having to do with a companion for your current dog or did I miss something?  Cats can be good companions too...animals often form bonds--particularly with young ones.  ;)

What happened to Leah?  Last I knew, you were working on her separation-anxiety and things seemed (if I'm recalling correctly) to be going better?  :(

The potty training, separation anxiety, and destructive behavior... none of it improved, and I returned her to the shelter back in December. I think I was also too quick to adopt a new dog. I needed more time to grieve. I wasn't honest with myself.

I'm so sorry to hear that.  The little bit that I know about you, I'm sure that you tried your very best and did your best to make it work out.  It's hard when pets die and you're struggling with the balance between grieving and really wanting a new pet and to be a good owner to them.  💔

You'll find a new pal at the right time and you'll be a great pet owner/daddy--again.

No way I am asking that question  ;D

I won't be retiring until the 2040's, sadly. If I last that long!

Interesting - perhaps you can satisfy my curiosity about whether that entire room full of Theology books in the John Rylands Library holds much of value nowadays :o .

Solved the clogged kitchen sink issue.  I have a double sink and one of the sides wasn't draining.  I figured that I would have to undo the pipes under the sink (which I have done before).  I realized that after I had scooped out the water from that side that the sink drain felt and looked a bit different from the other side.  It turned out that the tiny plastic cover that fit on top of my tiny container (which had held wasabi from a sushi takeout) had formed a perfect seal inside the drain!  lol

Problem solved!

K

@DavidW I was relieved as I was a bit tired from gardening and not looking forward to dealing with the pipes.  Ironically, I tried a number of times to use a combo off and on of either a sponge or fingers (thinking that there could be some food blocking the drain.  Wrong!  ;D
