Quote from: AnotherSpin on June 08, 2025, 07:47:22 AMMaybe I'm gradually moving in the opposite direction — from viewing many things from many angles to focusing less on the countless changing objects and more on the one constant subject: the one who perceives, i.e. myself.

I don't know what Deleuze meant, but to me, a guerrilla war within oneself seems impossible — at least if we're talking about the true Self, which is whole and indivisibl in its oneness with Reality :)

For Deleuze that was the way of philosophy, philosophy isn't a power according to him, but a guerrilla war inside ourselves. I like that, it's what I experience, all kinds of forces within, probably struggling and coping with power coming from outside.

Watched the Roland Garros (tennis) men's finals today.  From my inexpert opinion, I would say that there were some ups and downs (on both sides), but I was really impressed about how the top ranked no. 1 and no. 2 (who have both won slams before) managed to regroup with some amazing shots and mental strength to dial back in and not give up.  Over 5 hours on court.  Impressed by both.

I'm getting the windshield replaced on the VW. The process of getting coverage and making the appointment was labyrinthine and torturous.

It's a crack from an unknown cause. One day it was just there. I theorize that a swallow dropped a coconut on it. We'll never know.

Quote from: ultralinear on May 14, 2025, 06:09:41 AMApplying FlexacrylTM to a garage roof:

Not nice to work with - a suspension of glass fibres in thick glue, that dries surprisingly quickly on a warm day (like today) - and is particularly laborious to work into a surface that's started to lift and break up (as here.)  But an effective way to extend the life of a roof that's at all dodgy.  Five years ago I used it on a porch roof that had started to leak but I hadn't identified where from exactly, and the problem hasn't recurred since.

The product notes are amusingly optimistic with their instructions for cleaning equipment after use, all of which could be condensed into the two words Don't bother.  This stuff gets everywhere, and sticks everything to everything else - hard.  I've found it advisable to stop periodically and throw away whatever I've been using and replace it with new, and be thankful to get off the roof without finding myself glued to it.  It's all too easy to carry on past where you should have stopped, then to find your hand is stuck inside your glove, which is stuck to the handle of your brush, which is now stuck inside the can.  Which is stuck to the roof.  For this job I wear a special pair of jeans with duct tape where the knees used to be. :blank:
That's an adventure!

Me, I walked relaxedly to the Library to print tickets for the Juneteenth Celebration Concert tomorrow. The temperature is of a comfortable degree of warmth, but the humidity is some 60%. I've decided to sit down to the Singapore Curry Noodles at the Peppercorn House for Juneteenth Eve.

Quote from: DavidW on June 08, 2025, 06:07:18 AMI'm sweating it out. My AC broke. I have to pay the weekend rate to have my AC repaired or I'll be suffering all day. Not fun to be in South Carolina in the summer without AC.

Quote from: foxandpeng on May 24, 2025, 09:18:48 AMHa. I'm actually a teaching elder in a church whose roots are Brethren, so I probably won't mention that to anyone 😅

Brethren churches in the UK have broadly evolved into more healthy, mainstream evangelical positions with the eclipse of the Dispensational, end-times-obsessed quasi-Zionism that was part of their warp and woof. Either that, or they've shrunk to irrelevance and become part of the Frozen Chosen. Thankfully, we are the former, and are a growing and increasingly impactful congregation of all ages.

Great if such things warm your heart and float your boat. We live in interesting days, with something of a quiet 'spiritual turn' going on in the UK.

Probably not something Crowley would have voted for 😄

Quote from: Kalevala on May 21, 2025, 09:52:39 AMSolved the clogged kitchen sink issue.  I have a double sink and one of the sides wasn't draining.  I figured that I would have to undo the pipes under the sink (which I have done before).  I realized that after I had scooped out the water from that side that the sink drain felt and looked a bit different from the other side.  It turned out that the tiny plastic cover that fit on top of my tiny container (which had held wasabi from a sushi takeout) had formed a perfect seal inside the drain!  lol

Problem solved!

You might  build a product using Wasabi as a sealant, and sell it to 3M.

Was about ready to rend my clothing and start pulling out my hair....I was having problems signing into my landline/internet account to pay current bill.  Normally, that isn't a problem.  For some reason or another, it wouldn't show/take the space between two words.  So, I figured that I would reset the password and then change the answer to the question.  Kept getting "No, no, you need to enter a new this and that".

Augh!

Finally accomplished!  ::)

Normally, I don't have a problem signing in (and resetting passwords in general).  This was strange though as when I typed in my old password (did a number of times), it wouldn't let me enter in a space between the two words--which I had been able to do in the past.  Strange--and yes--frustrating at my end.

I'm cooling off due to the stupendous efficacy of my window air conditioner, a remarkable state of affairs considering it's 11 years old and has never been cleaned or charged. It effectively cools the entire apartment even on the hottest days.

It's a Frigidaire that puts out 15,100 btu. The model has been replaced by a similar one. What's special about my unit besides its longevity is that it runs on regular wall voltage (115v). Most acs over 14,000 btu run on 230v.

Replacing this with a new Frigidaire of the same power costs $700 plus plus the cost of installation.
