Hmmmmm......this should be interesting! I chose Shostakovich, though I adore Prokofiev's music. Shostakovich's music just has so much gripping power and emotion. His Symphonies 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11, VC 1 and both CCs are some of my very favorite pieces of classical music.

I'm pretty sure we've had this poll before. I voted for Prokofiev, then and now.

I see there is a thread in the "Composer Discussion" board entitled "Shostakovich vs. Prokofiev", but no poll on the matter, to my knowledge. Prokofiev takes an early lead-will it last? ;)

I might've voted Shostakovich but just today I caught on the car radio the most heart-melting arrangement (for piano and violin) of Prokofiev's Winter Fairy from Cinderella. So at the moment, Prokofiev...

This one is an easy one.  Prokofiev is a great composer, who is always worth listening to--but Shostakovich is just as good, and also connects with me emotionally in a way that few other composers do.

Shostakovich is emotion, Prokofiev is music.

What an ignorant statement. How is Shostakovich NOT music?

DavidW

Prokofiev is also emotional, and Shostakovich musical. :)

Shostakovich for me.

It's a quip I had never heard before and that makes absolutely no sense at all.

This is one of those impossible to choose polls. I'll flip a coin. Ah...Shostakovich.
