Hey kids,

I will be in northeastern Italy for a week soon. I noticed they are doing Aida at the Arena in Verona. Has anyone been there? Is the experience worthwhile? I am unfamiliar with this cast and conductor:

Principal Conductor Daniel Oren
Director Giampiero Solari
Scenographer Sergio Tramonti
Costume Designer Sergio Tramonti
Choreographer David Parsons
Choir Master Marco Faelli
Director of the Corps de Ballet Maria Grazia Garofoli
Lighting Designer Paolo Mazzon
Director of stage design Giuseppe De Filippi Venezia

Cast

The King Duccio Dal Monte
Amneris Elena Manistina
Aida Amarilli Nizza
Radames Marco Berti
Ramfis Marco Spotti
Amonasro Marco Vratogna
A messenger Enzo Peroni
High Priestess Antonella Trevisan

Does this sound like it will be a good performance? Thanks in advance.

Awww, nuts! It looks like the only performance I could attend is sold out.  >:( And they say classical music is dying...

Though Aida in Verona is one of those things that most tourists want to see, and therefore sells out much more quickly than the other operas they do.

Figures. Unfortunately none of the other operas they are doing this summer fits with my schedule.

Saw Turandot there in 95. The setting makes it worthwhile - this is Italian folklore - however the performance. Bring food and wine!

Daniel Oren...at least you'll be seeing the back of his head, not the front...

I don't really care for any views of his head. How is his conducting?
