Is this another Hollywood/Mossad/Liberal/Muslim conspiracy, snyprrr? They duped the entire world into believing The Godfather was actually directed by Coppola? The men in black from Area 51 silenced Scorsese, the cast and crew through hypnosis and anal probes?  :D

I'm concerned, Sarge, that you're looking for conspiracy under every rock! ;)

Of course, that fact that the biggi mobsters were talmudists and not papists does make one wonder who Francis is working for (I guess the pope works for tel aviv also??). Of course, 'Godfather' DOES allude to this (the Roth speech), but that's not what popular culture reflects. The shadowmen shall stay in the shadows... apparently. :(

What happens in Germany if one asks a question about... oh, yea, best not to open up that can of worms...

As far as Hugo goes, I thought it would have been better as a "short" than a feature.  Nice Steampunk look.  I do wish they would have spent more time on the Georges Méliès and his film making.  I found that component fascinating.

Agreed. Méliès does deserve a biopic of his own, I recommend Peter Greenaway for that task.  8)

Still, when I looked over that list, I cast my vote for Hugo.  We saw it in 3-D, and I just thought it charming.

It was between Taxi Driver and Raging Bull for me. But despite my dislike of boxing, i found this an amazing journey. As usual, I am the odd man odd, thinking Goodfella's one of his worst movies and not deserving of its Oscar nomination.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Raging Bull is a boxing movie in the same way that the Wrestler is a wrestling movie, in other words not really.

I voted Taxi Driver.

I agree with you on that one. Goodfellas is a good movie to look at (as usual) but I find it ho-hum in every other sense.

Hollywood

My choice is The Aviator. My brother, who is a prop master in Hollywood, was working on this film during the time my husband and I were visiting L.A. back in 2003. He would tell us how great he got along with "Marty" as he called Mr. Scorsese. Nothing like being on a first name basis with the man in charge... 8)

Cool story! The Aviator is great. Timeless look and feel to the film, I have a feeling this is one of Scorsese's more recent films that will contain it's impact longer than even The Departed will.
