How does one go about getting an audio recording from the BBC Archives?

Hi,

Assuming it is even possible to get a recording broadcast over twenty years ago, how does one go about doing this?  Derek Bourgeois said "The BBC broadcast Symphony No 3 back in 1992 played by the BBC Concert Orchestra, but that was its last airing" and I'm trying to track it down.  Unfortunately, the orchestra that premiered it has lost its funding and shut down this year - a casualty of our financially strained times.

Thanks.

For air checks ask around at the SymphonyShare Google group, someone might have it.

Thank you - it won't let me post there because its a closed site.  Is there a way you can post for this work?

relm1, I wish you the best of luck. I emailed the BBC about an old recording they aired of Alexander Kopylov's Symphony, but never got a reply and had no luck using other means.

You'll simply have to register with your Google account (assuming you have one). (It's not a secret society with initiation rituals a la OperaShare. ;)) Let me know if that works.

Wasn't the BBC Concert Orchestra the Beeb's pops ensemble? So they no longer have a pops orchestra at all?

Sorry, to clarify - the premiere was Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra and first performed by them in 1979 conducted by Vernon Handley.  This orchestra lost funding and ceased services last year.  The BBC Concert Orchestra played it and that was last broadcast in 1992 - that is the recording I expect someone somewhere has that I'd like to get.

Hmm, it seems there is an audio cassette recording here: http://www.soundandmusic.org/thecollection/node/105600  but I'm just not sure how to get it.  There is no email address or order form.

Thanks - I guess I've exhausted all efforts.  Since I live 10,000 miles away I can't go hear the recording and I was never able to get access to the symphony message board.  Maybe one day it will show up in a new recording.
